We have a very pronounced wet season these days between Mid September and Mid November. Symptomatic of warming seas and prevailing SW'lies

I've no idea what we're on as the rain gauge was blown off the fence earlier in the month. It's set up again so I'm hoping Tim A can provide an update for a fellow Leeds 16 resident

It has a long way to go to reach Nov average 92mm

Quite a good guess my gauge has just stopped accumulating on 9mm but since it is quite windy won't have caught about 10%

Another rain warning out for the south coast tomorrow (Wed) from the Isle of Wight eastwards. This should convert existing flood alerts into flood warnings. Environment Agency give rounded figures for precipitation of 150mm already this month at Bognor (double the normal amount for the whole month) and 40mm this (Tue) morning alone at Liss, just off the A3 near Petersfield.

https://www.floodalerts.com/

[But I can hear Scots muttering 'softy Sassenachs'; the same site gives details of flood warnings already in place on Tayside]

The rain so far this month has given surface reservoirs in the South a modest increase but the rain has not yet percolated down into the water table in the chalk aquifer.

The Southern Water groundwater site is a month out of date, so not quoted here.

And remember that cities like Brighton depend 100% on groundwater so recharge is essential.

So far we’ve had 104.8mm with heavy showers still streaming in… and we’re still on a hosepipe ban.
