Finally the snow has arrived here. Painful to watch the band move so slowly. Not expecting much here but we live in hope.

Chucked it down here, have been out since before it started settling. Now home and still snowing. 2 inches at a guess.

Wonderful.

Actually I was thinking the opposite: the slower the band moves towards us the longer it will snow. Then there's the second bite when it pivots and slides away south again; it may well have lost intensity by then.

The first snowflakes have just started falling here. Currently about 1c, puddles still frozen solid and overnight frost still mostly intact.

Precipitation now stopped and temp. risen to 0.9*C, DP 0.2*C so the snow on the ground is thawing.  Well, at least I've seen falling snow this winter.

Well, I am pleased to say that the Croydon snow shield has finally been breached!

Heavy snow since just after 10.00, which has just reduced in intensity, depth of 2-3cm.

Definitely the heaviest snowfall in 8 years (since 20th Jan 2013), and the first daytime snow since then, which was also a Sunday!

However, unless it keeps snowing for another hour or two, it is liable to all disappear before the end of the day, and therefore go down as another transient spell of snow...

Just looked at precipitation type on met check and taken a screenshot of the latest at 11:40am - it's interesting they have the band as sleet (the red) for many parts of the home counties including London: - As for the SW we could see some more 'wintry showers'. - Looks like sleet (red)The snow (blue) is Midlands northwards. either way the graphics are strange on Metcheck.

Moderate snow here after some very light stuff during the morning, looks like the ECM and Icon got it broadly correct last night with the position of the PPN,

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

Been out for a family walk and surprised how much snow we’ve had (Monmouthshire). Measured 8cm in the back garden, 10cm in the fields 250 metres away. Maybe we were in the sweet spot for once.

Moderate snow continues here, melting away and so no depths to report apart from a top up to hail layer from yesterday on grass. Peaked at 1cm earlier and now gone even from cars.

It will have to chill down quite a bit to snow again here, half the snow we had earlier has melted, the sun is shining and it feels quite pleasant, so will be lucky to see any more.

No more snow for us since 9 this morning. We still have a light covering in the garden but there's a steady drip drip at this stage so I suspect that it will all be gone before dark. Still, that's 6 days with falling snow which is more than the last two winters put together.

Only snow here in Ruislip, apart from about 5 mins of ice pellets. Had an hour of absolutely huge flakes. Been a great morning!

The band will probably stall around Nottingham (snowing in south Notts now), pivot slightly then head south again as a weakening feature later.
