fax chart for 18z shows a convergence zone that means business. Chucking out snow at a rate of 1cm per 10 minutes in the intense blobs

I guess you SE Kent chaps were well overdue but boy has this cold spell been frustrating for here!

Sunday was largely light stuff on to very wet ground so whilst snow fell for a long time it only gave 2-3cms and a lot of surfaces weren't covered as the precip wasn't enough to cool the ground sufficiently.

Monday had light snow which petered out maybe giving another cm or so before another 2cm or so of chiefly light stuff fell Monday night in to Tuesday morning.

Today had some brief moderate spells of snow in the showers but not for long enough to settle away from areas already covered in snow or frozen. Maybe a CM or so fell from around 12:30 to 14:30 and after that we had blue skies.

Maximum recorded depth on our decking was 6cm away from the fence where it piles up a bit, grass depth varied from very little where it was so wet it didn't really settle to 5-6cm in sheltered parts where the grass had survived better. The paths have had a max of 2cm on, which all melted yesterday and today.

Meanwhile Maidstone a short distance NE of me had a decent amount and your neck of the woods has done well too.

Just would have been nice to join in with some heavier stuff and get a decent cover - so nearly good but just not quite

Quite a lot upstream for the Kent crew as well...

Its great Joe. Next one may give another cm or so.

What's pleased me the most is that I've witnessed a true night time convective prolonged heavy snow shower with nothing marginal. The type where the sky fills in with orange, familiar objects on the horizon disappear. A fog of huge vertical falling flakes descend followed by a deep clear blue clearance revealing the stars ahead of the next batch.

We've waited for 8 years but its been worth the pain - 10/10 for me. With the prospects that we will now preserve our snow cover very well now until Sunday thanks to incredibly low dewpoints and possible ice days.

You describe it perfectly . So special.

This latest echo will be heaviest to your west but there are plenty more upstream.

-0.7c / -1.7c.

Calm.

We had that a couple of weeks ago. From 0 to 5cm in an hour and then another 2-3cm in half an hour after that.

Looks like I might be joining in temporarily. Decent line from here to Lowestoft (about 40 miles) with potentially more out to sea.

Huge shower heading for Maidstone and hopefully onto Tonbridge

Radar is looking a little more promising for my patch - we did have a light shower a little while ago that left a little dusting

Temp is sat at -4.2 so if we do get anything approaching a reasonable shower it should settle well.

Folks along the coast from IOW west should watch the progress of the channel streamer. Steering flow is already starting to veer to the east which could push the streamer axis into the coast from the early hours. It’s already moved 50 miles north in the last two hours. One to watch if like me you’ve barely seen a flake from this spell.

Bit jealous of the Kent streamers but you guys deserve it, it really still can happen down there. Amazing radar.

Now why has nothing like that occurred up here? If it can happen for Kent and eastern Scotland, why has pretty much the entire country in between only seen weak, sporadic showers?

Very bizarre imo.

I waited 8 years for some decent snow.  Prior to this 2,990 days with only 1 day with 3cms.

Now Im adding a cm per 15 minutes.

It's great for the East Kent guys because they've been starved of a decent snowfall for years the same as me just north of the Estuary. I missed out in recent years for the same reason as them but am gutted that I am completely missing this by just a few miles as when they get it I usually do quite well but zilch.. In fact if the new Darford Tunnel was built I could get there in 20 mins !

I hope you luck out - this may stall and pivot west north west between 2 and 8 am tomorrow, with luck you might catch some of it.
