Now why has nothing like that occurred up here? If it can happen for Kent and eastern Scotland, why has pretty much the entire country in between only seen weak, sporadic showers?

Very bizarre imo.

And the way how the showers lined up instead of everywhere like rain showers does.  Really bad spell this one as there no snow storms that should occur on Sunday when the easterly arrive with front from the east follow by showers everywhere then settled down with hard frosts and sunny days.

But orography or even an Urban heat island?

Look at the feature over E anglia and how it only develops when it hits the coast.

There could be a suprise snow event for parts of Yorkshire and Northumberland today.

That 'york streamer' is fascinating.

Must be a tiny amount of CIN that an urban heat island is enough to overcome!

The beginnings of the humber streamer can now be seen on the radar to the east of Lincs.

Should hit the humber in a few hours. Hopefully the convergence should be enough to overcome what seems to be fairly small CIN.

Its about to hit leeds now and the pennines.

The feature is developing in situ, this is independent of the humber streamer which will not arrive for another couple of hours.

In between there is a dry slot which can be seen in a line from Hull SE until the showers to the north of norfolk.

I did not expect stuff to show on the radar for the humber streamer so soon, when it actually hits land will it intensify or weaken?

When the humber streamer hits land there are many possible effects:

1) Friction with land causes air to 'bunch up' promotes ascent

2) Humber itself squeezes and converges air also promoting ascent

3) BL heating also may promote ascent, sun is strong enough now

4) Interaction with baroclinic zone across yorkshire, again more ascent?

Could be interesting. But ofc it depnds on how much moisture there is. No point in having ascent if it just snows out and brings in very dry air.

Don't even need the streamer when the baroclinic zone is intensifying in situ!

Funny you should say that. Snowflakes were around for the best part of 4 hours falling from the most inoxious  of clouds. Sometimes slightly heavier but continuous nonetheless. Only now disappearing.

Seems like there is a dry slot pushing in your direction which is weakening the convection out to sea and nearer the coast.

However upstream in the E midlands, it looks like convection is getting stronger; again I imagine showers will develop in situ soon around the nottingham area.

I'll keep you posted, a few flakes were floating around 20 mins ago while the sun was shining, looked very nice.

It looks like things are really bubbling up, any cumulus convection?

Not much on the radar, but I'm going like 70% on the satellite atm.

Humber moisture seemingly killing off the snow from the baroclinic zone.

I guess a region of descent between the two features?

Feeling pretty sorry for the NE, Yorkshrie has done alot better for snow so far today!
