I am working just north of Sheffield today. A decent covering above 200m here, too. It is starting to ease now.

Surprised there is no extended weather warning since it is hammering it down in Pennine areas.

Although the Scottish snow was well forecast Tim, I think the English snow has taken them by surprise. It's settling to some extent in the East Midlands even

Snow stopped falling in Burnley, roofs are all covered but on the road it is turning a bit slushy, still it was nice to watch

Light snow here. It's settling on the usual places (cars, shed roofs etc). Think it's too light and wet to settle on the ground.

When I was out in the car around that time, the temp had dropped to 2.5c (per the car thermometer) but the ppn was pretty much rain with only a little bit of sleetiness hitting the windscreen.

That doesn't count.

I'll always welcome a covering of snow*, even if a bit slushy and gone within 12-24 hours, but there's a big part of me that thinks "it's all a bit of a waste". This especially so since the winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11, when we had three incidences of thick snow on the ground for 7+ days

*not that I'll get one today

Didn’t quiet make it home. Strangely it was hammering with rain on the M6 at its highest point (300M ASL)

A couple of miles from home and it’s 0.5C with a couple of inches lying. Winter wonderland scenes.

Friend in Nottinghamshire (Radcliffe) sent pics of the garden with a covering, only a few mm but enough to turn it all white.

Hi, I’m new to this thread and trying to find my way around posting lol. I went to Waltham  on the wolds in Leicestershire this evening where there was a thick covering of snow, about 4 inches on grassy surfaces! I would post pictures but it doesn’t seem to work from my phone. Felt very Christmassy!

From the news reports on the tv you'd think we'd never had thunder snow before.

At least it will be mild!

Possibly some more snow in the early hours here, if it ever cools down. Still 5c. Much cooler east of here and south. Complex temperature profiles. E.g Wunderground showing 6c in Thirsk and 0c on Blakey Ridge (high up but still) to the east. 5c in the west of York but 2-3c to the East.

We ended up with about an inch of snow cover on grassy areas here. Nothing amazing compared with snow falls from the past but a promising start to Winter. Snow before the winter solstice is pretty rare in a warming climate.
