I'm hoping that the pivoting precipitation band that's inching it's way ever closer to here can delver at least the first few flakes of snow of the season. At least it doesn't seem to be breaking up (as of yet) as it comes over the Pennines as often seems to happen in these situations. I'm not expecting a covering or anything but it would be good to get 'off the mark' for winter 2020/21. Late Nov/early Dec is generally the time I see the first snow anyway.

I do wonder as the front decends whether it will "push" the colder air embedded over to our way, rather than draw air in from the irish sea.

We are at 5*c .... slowly ebbing down as the front approaches

Its not often you hear of a Warm front moving in from the north east in Winter....

Indeed , only in the UK.

Seems like the milder air is having less of an influence south of here , bodes well for parts of Greater Manchester I would have thought as some very modest elevations in places like Lincolnshire are reporting a covering.

Early March 2016 was really odd, had a westerly flow and evaporative cooling caused the snow level to drop to sea level and yet when the wind direction switch to the NE, the snow level lifted. Very unusual, the colder airmass was to the south of the low..

28mm of rain here for the 24 hours. Close run thing with some wet snow reported widely in the north of Essex. As I said the other day, shame it wasn't a bit later in the year as with a colder continent this is just right for the S.E.

Exactly, and that is why a convection thread has just been started on this forum for reporting that sort of thing.

Since I was the first person to report that here on this forum, I probably could have started that thread myself.

Since that isn't normally something which we would expect to be seeing during the winter (it is normally during the summer that convection threads turn up on this forum), I didn't think that starting such a thread would be all that worthwhile.

However, the fact that this thread has now been started shows that there is obviously a bigger demand for it than what I had thought.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Doesn't happen very often though and I'm sure that normal service will be resumed before too long in this part of the world.

In any case, I have never said at any time that we NEVER get any interesting weather here and so, what I have always being saying all along is that this is how it tends to be on average in comparison with the rest of the UK.

That to me seems like a quite a fair assessment.

My daughter reports snow beginning to settle in her garden, she is in Arnold, Notts. Snowing in other parts of Nottingham too.
Meanwhile after all our thundersnow excitement in Edinburgh it's rain lashing against the windows now as the NE wind is increasing. Slush nearly all gone
