What a strange day. After a covering this morning which quickly thawed it hit the dizzy heights of 5.1c a couple of hours ago.
Now 1.0c with heavy snow and big fat flakes. Not settling yet.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Some sleet in the rain at times when it's heavier +4c but similar to last night - as soon as cloud arrives the temp rises. Everything was cold and crisp earlier. :/

After a few hours of heavy wet snow we have had an inch or so covering on all surfaces. It's now sleety again with the temperature back up to 1.5c so slowly melting.

In the flurry of reports yesterday. I missed whether you got snow in the end Doc? Did you have to eat you hat or is it still safe?

No, as expected my hat is well and truly intact.

With a long track over the North Sea there is little if any chance of snow here at this time of the year. We would need a decent northerly flow of some variety.

The 33mm of rain (and counting) from the event didn’t disappoint and there was a brief bit of hail in the early hours of yesterday morning.

.. and yet, Richard will no doubt still tell us all that this particular location is the most boring part of the UK when it comes to the weather.

There is nothing interesting about getting rain. It happens all year round. An example of an interesting weather event would be thundersnow or just snow which we don't seem to get any more

There certainly should not be little chance of getting snow at this time of year. In the 21st Century, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 have all had lying snow by now. Early season snow doesn't appear to have declined much compared to say January which is just a disaster year in year out.

Now we have to see places which have historically little chance of getting snow receiving a covering while we endure the  tedious weather and temperatures associated with the places which have historically had the most boring and pathetic winters: Cornwall and the West Coasts of , Wales and Ireland

Aberdeen: The only place that misses out on everything

I was referring to the hailstones though, and not so much to the rain.

A few minutes of hail when most people are asleep is not really that exciting.

Heavy sleet on Epsom Downs, just drove back from Leatherhead to Epson and started to notice the precip changing in a heavier burst.

looking at the North Sea feed I’d expect a few more beefy snow/sleet showers to come throughout the day. With a possible frost tonight very seasonal for yourselves.

My son lives in Durham and has just sent a video showing snow falling. Looking at the radar there is more to come as well.

How is that possible? I thought it never snowed in Aberdeen any more? smile
