It was 28 days in the end after all the manual stations reported. The first 30C last year was on 25 June so we are only 3 days later this year. Plenty of time to get a few more.

Nice to see you back on this side of the Border again after your latest adventures down in West Yorkshire.

Of course, I wouldn't exactly refer to a temperature of 17°C as "balmy" and in fact, that is actually cooler than what it was yesterday when we at least got to 21.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, that's what happens when you have a constant nagging NE wind coming in from off the North Sea all the time, and which just refuses to go away in the way that I would very much like it to.

The first date we reached 30c was 25th June last year!  I don’t know how many days we reached it but I think tomorrow could beat last year’s highest temp.

[edit] Just seen GW’s reply!  28 days wow!  Yes, it would be a good summer if we reached that and yes, it was a good summer!

I went up there last summer to escape from the heat. 27C sounds about right as it was 23C when I was at the top and 36-37C down in the valley. Must be close to or at a record, that.

I’d love to know what the temperature was on the summit of Mt Snowdon today.

Tomorrow’s max is a bit of a mystery. Here are the 12z (or latest) model predictions for London, which will be the hotspot tomorrow:
ECM (00z): 30C

GFS: 31C

ICON: 31C

Hirlam: 32C

UKMO: 32C

ECM high res: 32C

Cosmo: 33C

Swiss hi res: 34C

Arôme (06z): 36C

Arôme is usually the most accurate at local level so I’d put my money on something between 34 and 36C being reached, but we shall see.

The MetO automated has 34C at Heathrow tomorrow, FWIW.

I think the plume is starting to make its self more present here. Sky has taken on the slightly hazier look and it feels less fresh. Also the temperature is holding pretty steady at 23.5C.

Potential for 30C tomorrow here but it's a race against time with the front coming in from the West freshening things off.

Rose tinted glasses I know but I remember when fronts clearing away heat used to often bring a line of intense thunderstorms in from the West. Barely seems to happen nowadays.

I wonder what the biggest swing in consecutive days maximum is? 20.5C here today - could be 33C tomorrow so maybe 13C.

Yes but took out the record by nearly 2C and the June record by more. Staggering.

Beats any record in Brazil, Central America, Cyprus, SE Asia, Bangladesh, Zambia, Ghana, Botswana and is less than 2 degrees off Chad's record (Saharan Africa)

Alex Deakin in MetO video update suggesting hottest in the UK tomorrow will be in a corridor N. of London up to Cambridgeshire with "32, 33, 34 even 35 possible and could get close to June record".

It's 6th in Europe's highest.

Also Mexico which is central Mexico smashed the French one today @52C, Myanmar in Southeast Asia 47.2C.

As for Chad its one of the cooler Saharan records. 51.3C in Algeria or or 55C Tunisia.

The rest of your selection are largely tropical.

For me Canada holds the most impressive a 45C recorded at almost 50n latitude.

The boundary layer slayer is kicking in here - wind has veered east, and once it goes south of east, its game on.

Love it.

That continental haze has started to appear as the blue sky starts to take on an orangery tinge.

Shame we can never have the poetic justice of the opposite of this week: cold Northerly airmass with a really hot southerly boundary layer. Because convection.

So very true Tim S!

Really did take on a more sultry feel here this evening as the wind finally abated. Humidity's back up to 60% and rising and it's still 24.5*C as I type this.

It all feels like a 'loaded gun' for heat tomorrow. Could see some impressive early-morning readings - widely exceeding the mid-20s by 9 am.

I'm going to try and haul myself out of bed at 6 am tomorrow to get out on an early cycle ride by 7, taking in parts of the New Forest. Always toughest to kick off so early on a Saturday morning after a hard working week, but it'll be well worth it I'm sure .

I've got my own little thermometer on the bike, not very accurate (variable exposure; typically reads reality +- up to 3*C!) but will be fun to watch anyway.

Kind of amazing that there looks to be hardly any showers in the south and east as the hot air departs, let alone thunderstorms. Very different to the hottest days of 2015 and 2003.
