Azores high or something derived from it in residence for the foreseeable, Dry, at least in the south, and an ensemble series of pleasant summer temps in the low to mid 20s bar a short dip around the 7th.

Some very useful summer weather ahead, not overly hot and good for sleeping at night.

Goldilocks weather (in the south at least) if the MO is near the mark. Perfick as Pop Larkin would have said.

That’s the second time I’ve heard Goldilocks weather!  Brian mentioned it on the moaning thread too!  What is it and why!

Hi Col.

You may come across the phrase in astronomy/astrobiology applied to "habitable zone" or "the circumstellar habitable zone" of planets and in the search for exoplanets. Earth lies in our own "Goldilocks zone".

As qualifying exoplanets may well have atmospheres and climate, you can expect to encounter the term with increasing frequency.

As this thread is in danger of going seriously off-topic, I will post my customary link to the GEFS

with the comment that the much-hoped-for rainfall down here (well, by me, if nobody else) has been postponed to beyond the 11th, and not much of it then.

Thanks Col!  I was wondering where the porridge and the bears came in too!  Was thinking porridge fog like a pea souper, hot enough to bear (bare) it all etc.  But Goldilocks weather will suit me fine!

Sorry for taking this OT Brian but it was you who started it.

Everyone has their own Goldilocks weather. The end of this week probably gets close to mine - around 26-27C by day and 15-16C by night. During holidays, a couple of degrees warmer would be perfect.

Today's sky is also rather nice. I like days where cumulus bubbles up but never gets beyond 4 octas, and then melts away from mid afternoon onwards.

Prospect of warmer weather in week 2

http://www.wxmaps.org/pix/temp4

not to say very warm in the south. Note that big pile of really hot stuff over Spain - maybe we'll get another heat low drifting up towards us later on. Main chart (GFS0z) not so optimistic, while still pleasant for the most part

Continues to look quite settled to me. Massive change from much of June.

This morning’s GEFS looks equally if not more settled, yet the actual runs from GFS, GEM, ECM etc (all but UKMO which is looking anticyclonic) are quite messy. Slack pressure, depressions eating into the margins of the continent. Not much sign of high pressure actually taking up residence over us for the time being. Goes to show you don’t need a perfect set up to get decent dryweather.

That said I’m doing my annual work barbecue next Friday and, as always, it is looking like one of the most unsettled days of the coming fortnight. Even last year there was rain around for the same event. I am stuck if it rains because I don’t have enough space inside for everyone.
