Now that it has finally stopped raining here, I can now report that a total of 9.8 mm of rain has fallen during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 9.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which at both of those stations, makes today the wettest day of both this month and year so far. That includes a total of 2.8 mm of rain which fell within one single hour between 5pm and 6pm at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, that now takes the total for this month so far to 54.4 mm, the total for this winter so far to 107.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 54.4 mm as at 6pm this evening.

At the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that now takes the total for this month so far to 50.4 mm, the total for this winter so far to 96.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 50.4 mm as at 6pm this evening.

In the end, a total of 10.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 9.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

So far today as at 8am this morning, a very impressive total of 15.0 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 11.5 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which in both cases, now makes today the wettest day of the month and year so far at both stations.

Amongst those totals, Storm Georgina alone, has brought 14.8 mm of rain to Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 11.5 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, that now takes the total for this month so far to 69.6 mm, the total for this winter so far to 122.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 69.6 mm as at 8am this morning.

This means that we now need just another 6.8 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

At the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that now takes the total for this month so far to 61.9 mm, the total for this winter so far to 108.3 mm and the total for this year so far to 61.9 mm as at 8am this morning.

This means that we now need just another 5.6 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

With further heavy showers being forecast for the next couple of days, the above totals for today are unlikely to be today's final totals. The end of the week is forecast to be a bit drier but with more weather systems forecast to move in at the weekend, it is now looking likely that this month will now go down as our first wetter than average month since last August even though those weather systems aren't expected to bring as much rain as what we have seen over the last day or so.

In the end, a total of 18.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 12.7 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, making yesterday the wettest day of the month and year so far at both stations.

So far today has been dry, although showers are forecast for later on.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, that now takes the total for this month so far to 72.6 mm, the total for this winter so far to 125.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 72.6 mm as at 8am this morning.

This means that we now need just another 3.8 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This also means that we now just need one more official rain day or more during the rest of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days.

At the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that now takes the total for this month so far to 63.1 mm, the total for this winter so far to 109.5 mm and the total for this year so far to 63.1 mm as at 8am this morning in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This means that we now need just another 4.5 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, we have already had more official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh during this month than the 1981-2010 January Average which means that this month will now go down as a wetter than average month in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, regardless of what happens during the rest of this month.

January will be the seventh out of the last eight months to be wetter than average.

Since my last report in this thread, there has just been a further 0.2 mm of rain at the botanic gardens in here in Edinburgh.

For that station, that then takes the total for this month so far to 63.3 mm, the total for this winter so far to 109.7 mm and the total for this year so far to 63.3 mm.

This then leaves us still needing another 4.5 mm or more at that station in order for this month to go down as a wetter than average month there overall.

That may well happen as an unsettled weekend ahead has been forecast, and it might get unsettled again, right at the very end of the month as we approach the middle part of next week.

Having said that though, there are just five days left of this month including today (which is forecast to stay dry) and so it is looking as though, the rainfall totals aren't going to deviate all that far from the 1981-2010 average in the end. That to me, seems fair enough because we did get quite a significant dry period in the middle of the month when high pressure briefly brought in those cloudy easterly winds.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Gogarbank has been completely dry since my last report on this thread, so nothing has changed there from that last report.
