So far today as at 8am this morning, a very impressive total of 15.0 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 11.5 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which in both cases, now makes today the wettest day of the month and year so far at both stations.
Amongst those totals, Storm Georgina alone, has brought 14.8 mm of rain to Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 11.5 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
At Edinburgh Gogarbank, that now takes the total for this month so far to 69.6 mm, the total for this winter so far to 122.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 69.6 mm as at 8am this morning.
This means that we now need just another 6.8 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
At the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that now takes the total for this month so far to 61.9 mm, the total for this winter so far to 108.3 mm and the total for this year so far to 61.9 mm as at 8am this morning.
This means that we now need just another 5.6 mm or more of rain during the rest of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
With further heavy showers being forecast for the next couple of days, the above totals for today are unlikely to be today's final totals. The end of the week is forecast to be a bit drier but with more weather systems forecast to move in at the weekend, it is now looking likely that this month will now go down as our first wetter than average month since last August even though those weather systems aren't expected to bring as much rain as what we have seen over the last day or so.
