Indeed.

I got the geezer  installing mine to route it under the work top  into the main sink outlet - less chance of it freezing - better than just poking the poxy thing out through the wall like most do - I suppose its a safe enough bet it will be OK, given our usual "forever autumn" climate, but I'm  a pessimistic optimist  !

We did the same after our condensate pipe froze for the second time in Dec 2010. IMO it should be illegal to run them outside except where there is no alternative.

Was supposed to be travelling to Sheffield on Saturday; the girls are in a comp there. We were making our own way there, but half the squad were going on a coach.

The coach company has now cancelled the journey because 'of the risks of travelling on the M62'. The squad's now pulled out of the competition completely.

FFS. It's two days away. Likely to be less cold by then - and even if not, the road will have been ploughed and gritted.

I was proper looking forward to the drive, too.

According to the radar it should be snowing but it's not. It's more dry, windy, mind-numbing overcast rubbish

The ultimate, historic, all-time snow FAIL. Epic. The disappointment really is tangible. On top of the cold rain streamer on 4 February and other near misses it has been a winter of pain. Only tomorrow can rescue it to a degree.

It's not been much better in NW England away from the Pennines - MBY is similar to most of central & western Manchester and Cheshire.

Despite having snow falling for most of the last 4 days, the largest accumulation on the ground at any one time has been just over an inch. We had an amber warning that delivered no snow at all until AFTER the end time of the warning. Even Central London has had more snow on the ground than here...in fact 15 miles in all directions have by and large seen more snow than here. It is currently snowing now, but not adding to the miniscule depth, other than to put a dusting on uncovered surfaces. Our only real chance is tomorrow - maybe the amber warning that is 10 miles to the west will be moved east and give something meaningful...but I'm not holding my breath...

Here in EXETER WE now have heavy freezing rain and ice pellets mixed in with snowflakes and the temp has risen to -1.5c. Horrible out there now as it's frozen the powdery snow that fell for 6 hours and gave 6.5 inches and also making the landscape look icy - some icicles forming from gutter and car now!! This is a real USA styple winter storm - reminded me of the nor'easter i experienced on 16th December 2003 when I was in NEW Jersey. - When it snowed heavily with powdery snow and settled mid morning and became wet snow in afternoon then there were ice pellets /freezing rain early evening!

Eastern Hythe to Ramsgate - the new snow desert

That bloody gap over Staffordshire on radar. A great day for wind and blowing snow but rubbish amounts falling.

Haven't posted in this area before. Always left it to the experts, so I shall tread carefully.

Was just about to have a moan about the present winter, making perhaps a reference to 1947. Luckily I looked for info on '47, and found also '63, and so shall not publicly parade my ignorance. The inconveniences caused by our present weather pales into insignificance compared with the suffering
and consequences inflicted by '47. At any time these would have been enormous, but coming after the war the resources available to alleviate things simply did not exist. I just did not realise how dreadful '47 was for many many people.

'47 I can only remember in one way. Things always seemed bigger in your past, and as a toddler I remember what was probably 9-12" of snow as being amazingly high and softly satisfying. Funny how you don't recall the cold. '63 arrived at a time when after the needs of education and early work were met, the only targets left were hormone directed. Sheer bliss, or so it seemed at the time. As I recall there was a certain amount of chilliness about, but only when one was suddenly required to travel 15 miles on a motor bike at 2 am of a winter night, clad only in light jacket, trousers and shirt (and no gloves). But the reception was also softly satisfying. The cold was soon forgotten.

Being of a "certain age" myself I think this is beautifully written and evocative of an era. My hormones were rising in '63 but needed a couple more years to kick in so playing in the snow was still a priority. You should write more 

Why wasnt't the Peak District, Pennines and Cumbrian Fells put under a red warning? 

The winds were really strong last night here near sea level. You got powdery snow, huge drifts forming, trees reportedly coming down, so why no red warning for these areas?
