RIP Doug

Hi Gavin, thank you so much for posting that link...especially with his photo..makes it all the more poignant seeing his picture... I am just glad to hear that he wasn't on his own at home in his last few days...and I am sure, even in these hard pressed days for NHS staff in critical care wards, that a lot of human compassion and kindness would have been shown him...at the end... RIP Dougie you were an absolute star and legend

I didn't know Dougie well enough to know this, but would he have liked the 'current conditions' thread to continue? I for one would think of him every time I read or posted on it.

Oh!

I have a lot of things I’d like to say but for now...

Such sad news and a great loss to TWO. Yes, we knew it was coming but it still hurts.

However, we can all rest assured that we all did as much as we could by sticking with him and letting him know how well loved and respected he was.  He was a private person but he knew that on TWO he was surrounded by friends.

The greatest blessing is that Dougie didn’t linger and suffer.  The fact that he posted on here only a few days ago suggests he wasn’t in too much pain and was of sound mind to the end.  He had put up a hard and brave fight in the year since his cancer was diagnosed and he only gave in when he knew it was time to go.  There’s a right time for everything and it’s the right time for Dougie to rest peacefully.

A big hug Dougie!  X

Seconded. Don't know why the name was changed in the first place.

Dougie ,You left what will be a lasting impression on so many people here. To document your struggle and to persevere with life until the very end is truly an admirable achievement. You went further than that here, and affected our families and friends also. You gave strength in your weakness and in your darkest hours.
You kicked ass all the way, man.

RIP,Dougie.

RIP Dougie.

I know that the word "legend" is often overused these days in many respects, but when it comes to the contribution that individual members make to internet forums and communities such as this place, then Dougie was a legend in every sense of the word. Like everyone else, I that he had recently been resigned to the worst happening and he said as much a week or so ago in this thread, but it doesn't make the news any easier to swallow.

This forum is going to be all the poorer for Dougie's passing.

Rest easy now, Dougie, now that you are no longer in pain.

It has been a honour to get to know Dougie on TWO and on Facebook. Such a lovely and mild mannered man who took life - and even death - in stride. I could learn a lot from him.

I'm so sad to read this. Dougie was a great supporter of the Posting League and helped me consider my efforts worthwhile. He clearly touched other members of TWO throughout the forums. He'll be missed.

My wife fought her own battle with cancer a year ago or so which fortunately she has won, for now... I can't imagine the fear Dougie and his loved ones must have felt in the realisation of losing that battle.
