UK Outlook for Monday 25 Sep 2017 to Wednesday 4 Oct 2017:

Next week there will be plenty of dry weather, but there will be light rain for a time. It will be rather warm during the day time, but it is likely to be chilly at night with some mist or fog patches possible, which may last well into the morning on some days. The second half of the week will be more unsettled with wet and windy weather more likely in the northwest, with a risk of gales or perhaps severe gales. The best of the drier and brighter weather will be in the southeast. Into the start of October there is an increased chance of all parts seeing the unsettled conditions, with rain and stronger winds likely at times.

UK Outlook for Thursday 5 Oct 2017 to Thursday 19 Oct 2017:

Through early October there is considerable uncertainty in the forecast. It will be changeable, with the northwest likely to see more unsettled conditions with strong winds or gales possible, with perhaps more settled interludes in the southeast. Temperatures will be close to or slightly above normal. However, there will be some chilly nights with early morning mist and fog as well as an increased chance of frost, most likely in the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 28 Sep 2017 to Saturday 7 Oct 2017:

Thursday will be a changeable day as a band of rain, locally heavy, pushes east across the country, with the wet weather accompanied by strengthening winds. Brighter, fresher but showery conditions will follow from the west. Showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the northwest whilst it remains drier towards the southeast. Further wind and rain is likely to reach western areas by the end of the week and towards the weekend. From next weekend, it is likely to turn increasing unsettled for all with spells of rain, locally heavy, spreading east. It will be windy with the risk of gales in places, particularly across coastal areas. Temperatures will be around average for the time of year.

UK Outlook for Sunday 8 Oct 2017 to Sunday 22 Oct 2017:

More unsettled weather will continue across the country by the second week in October, most especially in the north and west. This will bring an increased likelihood of gales or severe gales as well as heavier rain across many parts. By mid October, confidence in the forecast reduces, however it may remain generally unsettled with occasional drier and brighter spells, particularly in the east and southeast. On the whole, temperatures will be close to or slightly warmer than normal, but in any settled spells there could be chilly nights, with an increased risk of mist, fog and frost, especially in the north.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 25 September—Sunday 1 October
Autumnal weather is on the way

This week begins with the calmest weather we're likely to see for a while. Things will be slow moving through Monday with pleasant sunshine for Northern Ireland, western Wales and southwest England. Elsewhere it will be a mainly cloudy day with patchy rain. There may be one or two sunny spells in the east but these will be unreliable. Tuesday looks set to bring more of the same with the exception of some patchy fog to start and strengthening winds in the west later on.

The middle part of the week will see a transition into more unsettled weather as a band of rain moves in from the west with strong, occasionally gale force winds. At times this rain will be heavy and we may see some localised surface water issues. Thursday will slowly improve as this band of rain clears eastwards but we end the week and head into the weekend with further rain bands crossing the country from west to east.

Monday 2 October—Sunday 8 October
Surely things will settle down soon?

Low pressure will still be very much in charge of our weather at the start of this week with bands of rain and strong winds punctuated by short, dry spells with some sunshine. The best of any dry weather will be in the east whilst the west bears the brunt of the rain. Temperatures look set to be around average by day but the mainly cloudy and breezy weather will hold overnight lows up above average. There is a chance towards the end of this week that we could experience a period of settled weather but confidence in this is very low at this stage. It's all going to come down to how Hurricane Maria develops in the Atlantic.

Monday 9 October—Sunday 22 October
Nothing lasts forever

With weather systems running across the country fairly quickly you won't have to wait long for the weather to change. In the longer term we look set to maintain the theme of breezy and unsettled weather with large day to day variations. Again the west will bear the brunt of the rain and the east will be driest, but all of us will be reaching for the umbrella at some point. Temperatures will be around average for the time of year.

Next week

Can we finally expect some prolonged dry weather?

UK Outlook for Monday 2 Oct 2017 to Wednesday 11 Oct 2017:

Monday is expected to be unsettled with spells of rain in most areas followed by brighter and showery conditions on Tuesday with sunny spells. It's also expected to be windy for most on both days with gales or severe gales likely in places, especially on Monday. Following on, more settled conditions will probably develop for a time, chiefly across southern parts which would give an increased risk of fog forming overnight. Changeable weather will probably resume later with spells of rain travelling eastwards, and brighter, showery weather following along behind. It will be windy at times with the risk of gales in places, particularly across northern and western coasts. Temperatures will be around average, but with a chance of frost in clear spells overnight.

UK Outlook for Thursday 12 Oct 2017 to Thursday 26 Oct 2017:

There is low confidence in the detail for this period, however changeable weather is likely to continue across much of the country at first, bringing wind and rain at times, particularly in the north and west. This will bring an increased likelihood of gales as well as heavier rain to northern and western parts. However, there is a chance of a more settled spell of weather around mid month bringing drier and brighter weather with an increased risk of fog and frost forming overnight. By the end of the period more changeable weather is again most probable, with spells of rain and strong winds moving across the country interspersed with drier, brighter and more settled interludes. The best of the brighter and drier weather is most likely in the southeast.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 2 October—Sunday 8 October
Windy start to October.

Strong winds will be the main feature of the weather at the start of this week, thanks to a deep area of low pressure positioned just to the north of Scotland. Strong to gale force winds over much of the British Isles with severe gales for a time in the North. There will also be brighter conditions and blustery showers.

The weather will quieten down for a short time during Tuesday and into Wednesday, winds will become lighter and showers will die out leaving sunny spells. This settled weather will not last for long though, with further wet and windy weather set to affect northern areas later on Wednesday, edging southwards to many areas during Thursday.

On Friday and into the weekend, a more pronounced ridge of high pressure will move across the British Isles bringing a longer period of drier weather with some sunshine and lighter winds. At the same time though the high will also bring cold nights and some mist and fog. There will be rain at times in the Northwest. Throughout this week, daytime temperatures will be very close to normal for early October which is in the range from 12 Celsius in northern Scotland to 17 Celsius in the southeast of England.

Monday 9 October—Sunday 15 October
More settled but not for long

High pressure centred over more southern parts of the British Isles is expected to build northwards to give a drier few days with some sunshine. There will also be chilly nights with clear skies and lighter winds allowing temperatures to fall sharply leading to a touch of frost in rural locations. There is also a risk of overnight mist and fog which will be slow to clear. Daytime temperatures will remain close to normal. At this stage it does look as though the settled weather will not last for long with areas of low pressure expected to push in from the Atlantic bringing outbreaks of rain and strengthening winds during the second half of the week and into the weekend.

Monday 16 October—Sunday 29 October
More of the same

The second half of October looks likely to be changeable with Atlantic weather systems set to dominate our weather. A strong jet stream, the fast moving ribbon of air high up in the atmosphere, will be the mechanism to transport areas of low pressure close to the British Isles. We will see spells of wet and windy weather crossing the country followed by drier, brighter, quieter interludes. The heaviest rain and strongest winds are likely to be across the north and west of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland while southeast England will hang on to the driest weather. An Atlantic airstream is not a particularly cold one with temperatures remaining close to normal for the time of year.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 11 Oct 2017 to Friday 20 Oct 2017:

Through next week and into the weekend the weather will be rather changeable, with spells of rain likely at times, especially in the northwest. It will be windy for most places too, with a risk of gales around exposed coasts and hills. The best of the drier weather should be in the south and southeast, but showers or longer spells of rain are still likely across all parts of the UK. Temperatures will be about where we would expect for the time of year in the northwest, but it could become locally rather warm in the south and east at times. By the end of the period there are indications of some drier and brighter weather generally.

UK Outlook for Saturday 21 Oct 2017 to Saturday 4 Nov 2017:

The weather at the beginning of this period looks likely to be largely dry and settled, although confidence is currently low. This would probably give bright but cold days with an increased risk of morning fog patches and overnight frosts. However, there a signs that the more changeable conditions are set to return. Bands of rain and showers are expected at times, but there should be some drier days in between. The wet weather will also bring the risk of strong winds and gales. Temperatures may be quite chilly at the start of this period, but should return to normal by early November.

UK Outlook for Thursday 12 Oct 2017 to Saturday 21 Oct 2017:

Thursday starts on a rather unsettled note, looking towards the Atlantic for successive frontal systems. The north west will be the focus for strong winds and the heaviest, most persistent rain, with the south and east of the UK seeing drier and brighter conditions. All areas becoming rather mild, if not warm in the south east by Friday. Similar conditions are expected to remain through the weekend with the south and east having a good deal of dry, bright and warm weather. There are signals that these settled conditions may become more widely established across the UK by Monday. After this the signals become weaker, however it is more likely that we will see these drier and more settled conditions continuing but also with the increased risk of overnight frosts.

UK Outlook for Sunday 22 Oct 2017 to Sunday 5 Nov 2017:

At present, there is a great deal of uncertainty, but there are signals for more settled and dry conditions to be established at the start of the period. However, as we move into early November there becomes a greater chance of more unsettled conditions with bands of rain or showers interspersed with some drier days. Temperatures by this point could also dip below average for a time with some overnight frosts.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 9 October—Monday 16 October

Briefly warm for some

The week ahead has further unsettled weather in store. Monday will be a cloudy day in general, but mostly dry aside from a few outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Later in the day a weather front will cross northern parts of the UK bringing thicker cloud and rain here which will slowly track south towards southern England and Wales overnight into Tuesday. A second weather system will arrive in the northwest later on Tuesday bringing heavy rain for some. This band of rain will track southwards on Wednesday, and will be accompanied by strong winds, especially around coasts.

The end of the week marks a change to more settled conditions with a ridge of high pressure building across all parts on Thursday leading to a largely dry and fine day, though with some rain arriving in the west later.

Rain will continue to affect the northwest during the day on Friday and it's likely to be heavy at times. This rain should ease with some sunny spells developing on Saturday. However, further south and east, the ridge of high pressure will continue to give fine and settled conditions on both Friday and Saturday and it will feel very warm in the sunshine with light winds. Some parts of central and southern England in particular could see temperatures reach up to the low 20's Celsius.

On Sunday or perhaps Monday, a band of rain will cross the UK, leading to a return to fresher conditions.

Monday 16 October—Monday 23 October

Some fine and settled weather in store

Once this band of rain has cleared to the southeast of the UK in the early part of the week, the UK is likely to see high pressure build in once again. This will lead to generally fine and dry conditions prevailing across many parts, although it will be chilly overnight with frost and patches of fog likely.

Monday 23 October—Monday 30 October

Normal Autumn resumes

Towards the end of the month, unsettled weather looks likely to make a return, with areas of low pressure developing in the Atlantic and moving across the UK bringing strong winds and rain at times, especially across the north and west. However, there will also be drier and clearer interludes allowing sunny spells by daytime although a risk of frost and fog overnight.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 18 Oct 2017 to Friday 27 Oct 2017:

Probably a relatively fine, dry and chilly start on Wednesday, before becoming rather changeable with spells of rain for most areas into Thursday, with the risk of gales across western parts, while remaining mainly fine towards the south and east. Into next weekend it looks like it will remain mostly changeable and windy in the north and west. There will be some drier and brighter interludes although these will be limited, and best of these will be towards the south and the east. Towards the end of this period, it is set to remain rather unsettled with spells of wind and rain, interspersed by some drier and brighter, settled spells. Temperatures will remain just above normal throughout, but with the chance of some chilly nights in any settled spells.

UK Outlook for Saturday 28 Oct 2017 to Saturday 11 Nov 2017:

At present, there is a great deal of uncertainty for the end of October and into early November. Changeable conditions look most likely to prevail with spells of wind and rain, particularly for the north and west where coastal gales possible. The best of any drier and brighter weather is expected towards the south and east, perhaps bringing a risk of overnight frost and fog. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay around average for the time of year.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 16 October—Sunday 22 October

Stormy start - more wind and rain later

The second half of the month begins with ex-hurricane Ophelia bringing a stormy day. Severe gales will spread to western coastal parts, with some disruption likely and gales will develop in many other inland areas later. At the same time, eastern England will be warm and bright. Gales will continue into Tuesday morning over the northern half of the UK but will decrease steadily. The south will have another mainly dry, bright and rather warm day while the north is cloudy with some showers. On Wednesday, most areas will be cloudy and there'll be some patchy, mainly light rain around. The second half of the week will turn very unsettled everywhere, with bands of rain crossing all parts, and there's the potential for further very windy episodes. Temperatures will also drop back towards average.

Monday 23 October—Sunday 29 October

Unsettled start and turning cooler

The last full week of October will begin on a very unsettled note. There will be periods of rain and some strong winds likely. The week's weather will keep an unsettled flavour but there will be lengthier drier, clearer periods as the week goes on. Should the winds fall light overnight, a couple of cold starts are likely, with local frost and patchy fog but rain and wind are likely to return for a time especially to the northwest.

Monday 30 October—Sunday 12 November

Prospect of some settled autumnal weather

Heading into early November, the weather pattern looks set to remain in a rather unsettled mood, with occasional spells of wind and rain but also some drier and brighter intervals. As the fortnight goes on, so a more settled spell is expected to develop although the northwest may hang on to mild conditions with cloudy, breezy weather and some rain. Elsewhere, higher pressure promises a much drier period with lighter winds and it will turn rather chilly at times. Overnight fog and frost will also become much more likely.

Next week

The change to more settled weather is far from certain, will we see frost and fog set the tone for early November?

UK Outlook for Sunday 22 Oct 2017 to Tuesday 31 Oct 2017:

Next Sunday will likely see an unsettled start, with wet weather clearing to the east, leaving a mix of sunshine and blustery showers for the rest of the day. The following week looks set to remain unsettled, with further periods of wet and windy weather, especially in the north and west. However, it is possible that there will be some longer spells of drier and brighter weather in between, most likely across the southeast. This may lead to more settled conditions towards the end of the month, although there remains some uncertainty. Temperatures will vary around normal through Sunday and Monday, before becoming slightly warmer through the rest of next week. There is an increased risk of chilly nights in any more settled spells.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 1 Nov 2017 to Wednesday 15 Nov 2017:

As we head into the start in November, a changeable pattern is most likely at first bringing spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes. The most unsettled weather is likely across the north and west, with the south and east often drier and brighter. These drier conditions may become more prolonged as we head through the first week of November, bringing an increased chance of frost and fog overnight. However, the northwest may remain more unsettled, leading to a more general northwest/southeast split by mid month, with the wettest and windiest weather in the northwest. Temperatures are likely to stay close to normal, although it may be colder than normal where settled spells are prolonged.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 24 Oct 2017 to Thursday 2 Nov 2017:

Tuesday and Wednesday look generally rather windy with gales possible in exposed areas, especially in the northwest. There will be showers or longer spells of rain for many, perhaps persistent in the south. Confidence in the forecast reduces during the remainder of October into early November. However, a northwest to southeast split is most likely. The northwest should continue with some wet and windy weather interspersed by brief brighter, showery interludes, whilst the southeast will be best placed to have more prolonged drier spells. Temperatures are most likely to be slightly above normal. Having said this there is a chance of more settled, colder conditions becoming established with morning fog patches, especially in the south.

UK Outlook for Friday 3 Nov 2017 to Friday 17 Nov 2017:

Confidence in the forecast during this period is very low. However, on balance it appears that the early part of November will most likely be changeable with near average temperatures. There is an increasing chance of more prolonged settled spells developing by the end of the first week of November, which may continue into mid month, especially in the south. This would lead to an increased chance of frost and fog. However, northern areas could hold onto more in the way of wind and rain at times. Temperatures should stay mostly near or perhaps slightly above average, although probably dipping to below average in any more settled spells.

UK faces MONTHS of SNOW: Sinking polar vortex to trigger COLDEST winter since GREAT FREEZE

"BRITAIN is weeks away from the first major winter whiteout with 2017 shaping up to be the “year of the snowstorm”.

James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said Britain will be crippled by several widespread snow events through the season.

These will strike through December and into the New Year with widespread winter misery forecast into the middle of February, he warned.

A particularly active Atlantic hurricane season will drag storms in from the west which will collide with cold air over the UK triggering heavy snow, he added.

He said: “There will be a continued risk of ex-hurricane remnants or major low-pressure systems hitting our shores during November and while this will drag in some milder weather it could also lead to significant and widespread snowfall at times, as the remnants or weather systems clash with the colder air across the UK.

“We feel snow events will almost certainly be undervalued until or after they happen over the next few months.”

He said the first taste of winter could arrive as soon as the end of this month as temperatures nosedive over the coming weeks."
