Correct; not only easier to read by daylight but, earlier, less likely to get bumped on the head and, as you say, not good to struggle with your Victorian notepad down to the park at midnight.

Something to take note

Months below the 1971-2000 average

Feb 2018: 2.9 (-1.3)
Dec 2017: 4.8 (-0.3)
Nov 2017: 6.8 (-0.1)
Sep 2017: 13.5 (-0.2)
Aug 2017: 15.6 (-0.4)

5 in 7 months

The next 5 previous months that were below their 1971-2000 averages: Jan 2017, Nov 2016, Apr 2016, Mar 2016 and Sep 2015.  That's 5 in in 17 months

So we seemed to have enter a coolish phase. Question is how long does it go on what with a solar minimum approaching?

Oh dear!  I went for 5.5c for this month!

I’m actually surprised it managed to reach 4.8c though.  We flew to Goa on 1st March, leaving snow and sub zero temps behind and we got back last night, to sub zero and snow!   A bit of a change from daytime temps of 34 to 38c.

Looking like the second time in a row where a very warm March is immediately being followed by a very cold one. 2012 and 2013 did this, and now it looks like 2017 and 2018 are following suit.

And what followed in summer 2013 was the driest since 2003 and sunniest since 2006

Could 2018 follow

2.3C here up to today, despite two exceptional severe bursts, it won't turn out anywhere near 2013 which was a remarkable 1.4C (-3.8C)
Interesting that today will be the 4th ice day of the month having technically missed a 5th yesterday due to being above freezing until 3am
Meanwhile March 2013 only managed one day below freezing

Hope so Gavin! A lot of recent wintry Marches have been followed by warm/hot summers as well as 2013. 1995, 1996 and 2006 are other examples!

Wouldn't worry too much (I went for 5.8c). Unless the month has another cold spell (and I know some recent output suggests this), March often has the CET susceptible to rises toward the end of the month.

Oh well!  At least I’m not alone!

I’d be interested in seeing the prediction table!  I wonder how many others think the same?
