My quick calculation using the reporting max/min figures from Stoneyhurst, Rothamsted and Pershore (couldn't get Malvern) give me 15.2C up to the 14th. About 1C below average.

Hopefully the next few days will restore some kind of order. Rothamsted's maxes of 14C on 2 consecutive days 8th and 9th stand out, as do all the low mins. Truly Octoberish weather.

It is striking how much warmer last year was, especially July and August, even September 2016 was only -0.1C on June and July this year (both 14C)
However next month may surprise us, certainly not unusual for the highest max of the year to be in September.
