Some amazing pictures.  It really is a different world above 3,000 feet in the Scottish mountains!

It is crazy.  Like the rest of the uk most of lowland/midland scotland (lower than 250m) has seen next to no snow this winter.

250-500m has seen transient snow now and again, obviously more frequently the higher you go.

Above 500/600m (significantly lower than 3000ft) they have had loads of snow.  The flat fall depth would be pretty special, but given the wind and the topography, some the drifts and gullies are easily in excess of 20m in depth (although this happens most winters, it is especially widespread this year).

The two pictures at the bottom of the page on the link below give a good idea of depth at Glencoe.

The roof of the hut at the top of the Cairnwell chair at Glenshee is said to be 20 feet under the surface. We just got away from Glenshee in time last night as the snow set in as even the road just to the North of Dundee was closed later.

Thunder snow at my mums in Aberfeldy last night with further reports quite widely in the Area.

Those stats really are incredible and underline the vast amounts of snow that fallen on many of the Scottish hills and mountains this winter. Ironically the UK has probably seen an average amount of snow this winter...it's just all in the Scottish mountains!

Well presumably the following report will be updated. I have serious doubts about the numbers highlighted above.

It does seem a bit high to show as average depths. However bear in mind the runs follow the course of burns and now are flat across. Can't post the link just now for some reason but have a look at the pictures on the Winterhighland forum of the lower Coire Cas at mid level. Check the picture dated 11th Feb this year on the Cairngorm snow thread page 24 and compare with picture on page 25 dated 9th May 2006. The upper parts of the mountain have much deeper drifted snow than that. There has been quite a bit of snow since the 11th also.

The picture above if it opens is the west wall chair which is above the coire ciste. The snow to the left as far as you can see is many metres deep over the burn line.

Sorry not having much luck with pasting photos just now. take my word for it or have a look at the source in Winterhighland!
