I'm loving this thread.  It just shows how very different the weather can be within a few miles and it's a good reminder for some of us not to be so IMBY when we talk about our weather.

Perhaps we could have this thread stickied Mods??.

Today was the first day I have seen snow on the top of Ben Lomond.

Back to Skye from Ft. William today. A bit warmer, low on the car was +3C around Bun Loyn and on Skye with a snow warning active. Plenty of snow on the tops, including The Cuillin and outliers (Blaven etc). Snow line around 500m at a guess.

Plenty snow around on hills now, was lying on roads down to around 220m earlier today, but level rose as afternoon went on.

Cairngorm are considering opening for limited snow sports at the weekend.  Hope they are serious other than just using the "maybe" as a PR/Publicity stunt to get news coverage through the week.

Based on the webcam image Doc posted, and the latest GFS showing mild air not reaching the 'Gorms till late on Sunday, I'd say it should be open

Could be a very different picture next Monday though!

Perfect winters day here in Glenmoriston , started off this morning looking like Narnia at minus 6. Temperature didn't rise about 2.1 all day and a mix of rain sleet and snow . The ground is so cold still the rain is freezing on contact as it can do most winters here but this is quite early even for here. Was up on the saddle yesterday and some good snow depths. Not looking forward to the milder stuff next week, loving this winter weather especially as it hadn't really been highlighted by the models really . Currently 0.9

The ptarmigan bowl certainly looks to have sufficient snow (I also saw a friends photo of a drift ~ 10ft in the same area), if they can get the tows working - might have caught them by suprise re maintenance etc?

Surprise couple inch snowfall down to about 200m west of Tyndrum this morning (localised over a 5mile or so stretch)

Cairngorms has opened for skiing today too http://www.cairngormmountain.org/webcams/live/ptarmigan1.jpg

A cold day here today in the NW Highlands , had our first sleety, snow shower but wet an hour ago. Now bright sunshine but cold 4.3 currently and plenty of snow above 2500feet . Hoping for a good cover tonight.

Glenshee in particular took a real pasting today. Road A93 has been closed since morning . 80 mph winds drifting snow badly, hopefully into the right places. A good fall at Cairngorm too and I see the Lecht has now also closed the snow gates.

Yup. its all about where the wind deposits the snow.   It is blowing an absolute hoolie here just now, so id imagine the worst be with you in an hour or two.  Nearly lost the power a few times but its held up so far.

Hopefully one or two of the areas will be open at the weekend

After a perfect winters day on the Glenshiel munros on Thursday , things are starting to look grim.
Gloomy, misty and few patches of blue, 0.9 overnight and 1.3 now. Mountain snow starting to look a little patchy as upper air warms slowly. Not my favourite weather at the moment and not much hope of a change on the horizion .
Cold Zonality is my favourite weather for deep snow and cold here, the current synoptics are not good and the period now until mid January is my favourite time here if the weather is cold. Even wet and windy / stormy would be more fun!!!!
