Nice photo showing how much has had to be dug out of the main basin up track at Glencoe in order to get the lift to run.

No wonder it is filling in everytime it blows or snows.  Its just a big snow catcher.

There looks to have been a lot more overnight on The Cairngorms, and to lower levels, snow line 800ft this morning.

Snow here in carrbridge but nothing in Aviemore.

A bit of a thaw today on the lower slopes with the slight cover from yesterday and overnight going. No real damage at altitude though. Some snow with height tomorrow before the high takes control. Low dew points in dry air with cool nights should minimise the damage from the higher daytime air temps and sunshine.

Just booked a night in Aviemore Wed for Skiing Thursday, hope the weather holds.  Looks like a partial breakdown thurs into fri before settling a bit again.

Yes the low dps are the snow saver.  Be nice to get some spring skiing in the sunshine with a bit of luck.  Makes up for the times we go up and get battered by the wind and rain/sleet/snow

I'll get some pics if the weather is nice

Enjoy! where you staying in Aviermore?

Mackenzies £25 B&B canny go wrong with that!!

International Starters was next best at £30

The YHA is the cheapest but it still works out about £20 and doesnt include fry up in the morning!

Once you get to the £35-50pp category there is loads.

I have no worries over snow condition.  Just worried the low cloud could be creeping in by then.  Currently looks like it will be later in the day before it pushes in, but i have my doubts.

Over two feet of level snow is said to have melted in the mountains in the last few days. Still plenty depth on higher runs but lower slopes especially in the East looking a bit patchy. May fill in a bit in the next few days after tonight's rain.

The reality is that the east never got the volume of snow that the west got and this is now starting to show through.  The west (despite a week of serious thaw) still has more snow than they normally have in a normal winter.  Coe and Nevis will also catch the bulk of any new snow, with tomorrow evening likely to see quite sizable quantities if HIRLAM is correct.

Think we will be at Coe on Sunday so will get some photos, might be Glenshee, but the fresh in the west and the shorter drive is likely to draw me Coe ward

Snow is disappearing now from the lower levels, i was at the Cairngorm base station yesterday around 2500ft where there are patches from old drifts and a fair old thaw is gong on with plenty of water cming off the hill.

Above is a picture of Ben Lawers last week. Still a good bit of snow on the East side. The nearer hill is An Stuc which in recent years has held the longest lasting snow in the area on it's North side. All the higher hills still well covered on East and North slopes specially up towards Glencoe.

Taken from Meall Greigh by the looks of it - which is the only Munro in the Ben Lawers group that I never did (I did a circuit from the north - interestingly enough, in April many years ago, in very similar weather)

You are correct. From that side you can do a short circuit of Meall Greigh and Meall Garbh then back down or carry on to An Stuc and Lawers. Have to confess that I did the shorter walk. However have completed the rest of the group both from the North up An Stuc first and from the old visitors centre via Beinn Ghlas. An area I do have much time for as I was brought up there longer ago than I care to remember.

I nipped down to Loch Morlich last night for a walk on the beach once the tourists had all gone home, still some decent patches of snow up there.

See them on my weather page below - feel free to like the page if you are a Facebooker!

Still plenty of huge snowdrifts up in the mountains - this is about 1000m on the southern approach to Lochnagar on Monday 27th May.
