I've seen some photos and claims on twitter that the cloud above was a funnel cloud, but i think it was just the slightly different angle that the photo was taken from.  Your photo shows it at an angle which easily disproves the claims

It would be very unusual for the patches visible from the valley to survive though those on Braeriach rarely melt. This year there are patches surviving to mid July in many parts of the Highlands even on sub 3000 feet hills as far South as below Loch Tay. This is despite the warm Spring and early Summer.

Continuing warmth will put paid to these in the next few weeks though but ther could be a number of surprise survivals if the weather turns and the new season snows come early. [The earliest lasting snow that  know of was in 1976 following the hot Summer. It came to the high Cairngorms in the second week of September that year.

Still some surprisingly big patches on the Drumochter Hills too:

...and even a small snow patch on the south facing slope of Carn Ban in the Monadh Liath:

Aye, I was very surprised by the snow fields on the Drumochter hills - the picture above was taken some miles north from Cluny last Friday and doesn't really do them justice.  They are below 3,000ft in NNW facing gullies.

Mind, you wouldn't like it up there atm - it's very hot and the air is full of clegs

I did mention the possibility for next week in my mountain forecast issued earlier today.

It is only not unusual though.

Indeed. I would also argue that while not remotely unprecedented, it is also not the norm for snow to fall even on the highest peaks in August. What it does indicate is that the weather will be unusually cool for August for a few days.

It is noteworthy but not exceptional.
