More worrying is the strength of the breeze which has now picked up and with the large Wildfire near Ringwood barely under control it is going to cause a flare up.

Hopefully the end of very hot weather and a chance of at least some rain.

Hopefully with the A31 fire being further inland than Hurn, where the wind is averaging about 12kts currently, and is likely a result of sea breeze effects as the temperature has dropped, the problem won't be exacerbated.  Sea breeze effects don't always do well when they move up against higher land (as the fire is, E of Ringwood by some miles) but there is sometimes a risk that a Venturi effect can actually accelerate the winds. Fingers crossed.

The fire crews have been working through the night but it hardly bears thinking about the damage to wildlife.

Gorse & heather habitats do recover well- the Forestry Commission and Forestry England have both used managed burning over the years, but this is a particularly sensitive area, with nightjars, Dartford warblers, sand lizards, hobbies, both sundews and other notable species. Thankfully the peak breeding season is over for the birds, but the footprint will be significant.

I've been following this and it seems it's not as under control as they thought. 

Near Lyme Regis, about 6 acres went up today. Not sure of the cause, but it might have been a bonfire that got out of control.

Encouraging for tomorrow as that’s actually above the most recent GFS maxes and well above UKV or Arome. So 38C tomorrow could be a possibility.

When this summer weather finally ends (long way to go yet) it’ll be almost a relief to not log in to TWO for 5 months until the reload next spring ahead of another virtually guaranteed hotter than average year

Even autumn and winter this year look mild and wet at this stage. What’s not to like? The Band Aid mob get their rain to save the Pretend famine, and the likes of myself get the mild.

I assume you are referring to the UK?   I dont know what the situation in Africa is looking like these days. 

It peaked just shy of 24C back now to around 23C. I think it was more of shift in wind direction as it was a N/NE coming off the mainland that brought the temperature increase.

Might sound strange but i think a lot of us down this way have now acclimatised. Indoor temperatures have never really dropped much since mid June - downstairs fan showing 28C as i type.

Also since mid June only a handful of days have failed to reach 25C and less than 10 nights have managed to drop below 15C. I've lost count of the amount of days above 28C here which coincidentally doesn't feel all that bad now, and even the 30C of a couple of days ago felt fine despite dew points in upper teens.

The first autumn chills are going to hit us hard - definitely we'll be living up to the soft southerners 🤣

Edit: currently a widespread frost across Lapland - it is coming.
