What with this parky evening and the decidedly autumnal model runs it’s hard to get my head around the idea we’re about to have a short but very intense heatwave, possibly as warm as the one in June only at the opposite end of the humidity spectrum.

Yes, sadly a huge pattern change appears to be coming next week thanks to that deep low.  Its going to be a huge shock to the system and any chance of records broken diminishing

Fourteen postcodes across east London and Essex are currently affected after a large water main burst on Chigwell Road in South Woodford on Sunday morning.

The affected areas are E10, E11, E17, E18, E4, IG10, IG2, IG4, IG5, IG6, IG7, IG8, IG9 and RM4.

Thames Water has not said how many residents have been hit by the outage, but a bottled water station has been opened for affected customers.

Indeed. Summer pretty much continues unabated here in the south

00z ensembles look very dry and warm after this heatwave and a small bump appearing next week but not a heatwave 7 just warm mid 20's so not sure why central heating needed to use at 23-25C?  20.5 to 21c 850s for here tomorrow so today here should reach 34-35C and tomorrow 38C.

This is a historic summer since 1995 but sadly the behaviour on other side show the true colour they are protesting against the good summer, want full on unsettled weather and been against/raging dismissing GFS 38-39C output which had been very correct with this coming hot spell.   Back in 2003, 2006 and 2018 there was no protests, no heat hater club etc everyone was enjoying the good summery weather.  Glad Brian won't allow a heat hater club here that the reason why i don't joined there due to  majority of them are anti summer weather.  I just view the charts but lately seeing lot anti summer protester posts instead.   

Also, thanks to the drought, I think this must be the summer with the fewest dewy mornings ever. 

In very wet summers it does every morning, in normal summer dew free from May to July then appear in August.  This year completely free since Spring but appeared in first half of June then none.  This heatwave is a dry heat so not going to be feeling unconfortable and gin blue skies now and 20C in deep shade part of the garden which will rise well later on.

Yes we haven't had many dewy mornings, I reckon I can remember half a dozen maybe. Today though was certainly very dewy, cushions were pretty wet and outside of the windows as usual had a good layer of condensation.

Yes, I wouldnt even call it a heatwave. A one day wonder. The darkness by 9pm and light only by 6am is making it feel like Autumn is nearly here. Next week is looking very wet and a dramatic end to the drought.  But some hope for the Bank Holiday weekend that the Azores can push back again

Not sure what you mean? We’ve already broken numerous records. 

That said, already 30C at my PWS in East Kent vs a max yesterday of 25C.

We're not likely to see a new all time August record though, especially with it still being cloudy as that record is currently 30.0°C and the temperature over the next day or so is unlikely to be over 27°C or so. Nevertheless, that is actually a record which goes all the way back to 1975 and so, it is remarkable to realise that even in this era of ongoing climate change, we have gone all that time without a single 30+°C maximum being recorded in August at the botanic gardens, especially given that our last 30+°C maximum was only recorded in July 2022.

However, a lot of that is probably due to the fact that the botanic gardens (along with the airport) are usually far more influenced by the North Sea than any of the other Edinburgh stations to such an extent that this particular station will often miss out on really high temperatures which are being recorded nearby at Edinburgh Gogarbank (just as an example).

I don’t think I have a fault: max under sunny skies yesterday was 25C. And it’s not the East facing aspect because it’s now afternoon. Could be one of those cases of very local microclimate up in the downs sheltered from onshore breeze.

24.7 here with a 19.1 dewpoint! The North Sea is doing a good job here today. 😁
