I wouldn’t count until a station other than Charlwood records 32C. 

6C at Gosport 18C Thorney that's 12 C difference over 20 miles and both coastal 

GF is at 29°C with an ESE breeze; TI at just 26°C with a SSW breeze. The IOW is helping to delay the onset of the sea breeze. Thorney has no such protection with a SSW'ly and the extra humidity accounts for the dew point differences.

That may well be true but we've also had much cooler and wetter summers than this and so far, this summer has been warmer than average overall with 20+°C maximums still being recorded here on a more regular basis than we would typically expect.

I do agree that this summer hasn't been as hot or as sunny as last summer but you only have to go back to 2024 to find a year in which the temperature here in Edinburgh actually failed to even reach 25°C during that entire year whereas during this year so far, we have actually seen temperatures of over 25°C on a number of occasions, albeit in such a way that we haven't actually had an official heatwave out of that (we have come close to that on at least a couple of occasions though).

Teddington and Heathrow have both recorded over 32C so that is 22 days. The previous record was 19 days in 1995. 1976 managed 16, but 15 of those were consecutive! The most we have had consecutively this year is seven.

Arpege only goes for 35C max though, quite a big difference at this stage.

GFS as I have just seen a few minutes ago is lining up heatwave No7. I know No5 wasn't much, but it still delivered 30s and over which to me still counts. No7 looks like the 18th to the 21st or 22nd. 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Some posters walked away because they not happy with the temperature only low 30's but for me any 30C plus I am very happy because this is UK not Med country.  Highlight of this summer is the posters how they walked away which I never seen this before, you expect frenzy of posts for temps 30C and over.

Anyone got the stats for 25C days? That’s really the baseline, where the action is. The red circles on the old BBC charts. My hunch is that recent years have been trouncing the old records for number of what I think the European mets officially call “summer day” temperatures.  

Not sure of other years but this year so far has 55 of a possible 70 days exceeding 25C (1st June, and every single day from 16th June onwards apart from June 29th). 54 of the last 55 days have had a UK max over 25C!

I have a spreadsheet with all the daily maxes for this year so it's a simple task to pull out the stats. For 2026 as a whole we have had 68 days over 25C. I haven't run the numbers for other years though, apart from 1976 which had 76 in the whole year.

Looks like today hit 33.1ºC at Teddington, which is also incidentally the 14th day to reach 33C this year.

2022 managed 51.

2018 managed 48.

Oft revered 1995 did well with 42 and 1983 had 30.

2025- the current hottest summer, not bad at 38. 2013 did well to get 33 as it was all wrapped up in July. 1911 managed 31.

1976 failed to get 30 and 2006 managed just 23. 2003's total is lower still.

With certainly at least 5 more to come, this is yet another record for this astonishing summer as far as I can tell.

I thought those forecasts for 33c were overcooking it. Maybe we really are looking at the 2nd hottest day ever Thursday.

Went to Pen y Fan earlier and the drive there was acrid. Was coughing by the time I was in the Forest of Dean. You can still smell smoke as far east as Oxfordshire

In the last 54 consecutive days I've had 50 above 25C. Then jump back to May and there were a further 9. That's for my location in S.Essex.

I was young then and loved the sun. We'd just had a long drawn out house purchase and set off for a holiday in the New Forest in September. As they say, the rest was history!

They should have just turned the place into the second runway!  I remember as a kid the campaigns to stop it from NIMBYS 

pub run also extends the heat into the following week with another push from the azores high.
