What is really P@*#ING me off just now is the consistent lack of actual "interesting" weather which just keeps on inflicting this part of the world, especially in comparison with the rest of the UK.
Indeed, that was evident even during the more "unsettled" spell earlier on this month whilst everyone else was getting a lot of rain, and the end result of this is with just six days left of this month after today, a total of just 35.2 mm of rain has been recorded for the whole of this month along with just 27.2 mm at the botanic gardens which in both cases, is less than half of our 1991-2020 January average rainfall.
Yet, it has been a lot wetter to our west and south with NE Scotland also being much being wetter than here. This means that the SE of Scotland has really been on its own just now in terms of missing out on all of that rainfall which the rest of the country has been getting. That abundance of rainfall elsewhere means that nowhere else is likely to be experiencing any potential water shortages during the coming spring and summer and so, the only part of the country which is likely to be at any risk from that will be here in SE Scotland.
Yet with no significant rainfall in the forecasts during the foreseeable future according to the latest model output, potential water shortages during the coming spring and summer looks very much on the cards for here in SE Scotland. We built up quite a big rainfall deficit during last year which was never fully made up here in SE Scotland and now, the same thing is happening yet again this year as well so given that last year's deficit was never fully made up, any water shortages which occur during this year will be much worse as a result.
Since Edinburgh lies right within SE Scotland, it should be easy to see from there, just what part of the country generally isn't getting any "interesting" weather, at least in terms of rainfall.
In addition to that, we have recently had to put up with the south of England getting all of the recent cold weather whilst our so-called winter" goes completely down the toilet pan here in Scotland with double figures winter temperatures here in Edinburgh. Since the south of England was also one of the wettest places in the UK earlier on this month, I don't ever want to hear another moan from another southerner on this forum about not getting enough rain or cold weather as that has certainly not been the case during this month.
Finally, Richard from Aberdeen often talks about the lack of extreme weather in his own part of the world but as confirmed DoctorMog from his own neck of the woods, the temperature at his own local airport got all the way up to around 16°C and if that isn't an example of an extremely mild temperature for this time of the year, then I don't know what on Earth is (the fact that this has happened is probably why Richard has been very quiet on this subject just recently).
Here in Edinburgh on the other hand, the temperature during this milder spell hasn't been above around 11°C, so I would say from this that it is Edinburgh and NOT Aberdeen, which isn't getting any extremes in temperatures, or extreme weather in general just now, thus backing up my point once again that Edinburgh just doesn't generally get "interesting" weather, especially in comparison with the rest of the UK.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
