Decent output once again but still little in the way of obvious snow for many people.  GFS in particular looks dry.

GEM has the cold spell ending in 10 days GFS a bit later. Both a little meh tbh. UKMO looks more snowy but hard to say really.

Even I’m a bit underwhelmed this morning. It’s going to remain cold up to the 18th as far as I can see, but it’s one of those ‘meh’ nothing breakdowns. I prefer yesterdays ICON solution.

Yes we need the low pressures plowing into our cold like yesterday's ECM 0z. Otherwise snow looks hard to come by for most.

Looks like we have 10 days of cold then back to Atlantic horror show and a long way back to cold.

The saving grace is less heating costs when it get back milder thankfully as this very boring dry cold for nothing use more gas.  Happy to use more heating cost if was heavy snow and subzero temps.  Outside this morning is less cold due to clouds above and no snow falling.

Have to agree cold without snow is a bit pointless.

I am not underwhelmed as I wasn't expecting anything from this and looks like I will be proved right. In ths country it is so difficult to get snow, and I've learned now after so many let downs not to expect anything, and then the disappointment doesn't come.
The models are all pretty poor this morning, and there's no getting away from that.
A 10 day dry cold spell with even a chance of a good old fashioned snowy break down does not interest me one iota.

A lovely icey period extending into next week and beyond at the best possible time of year.

Absolutely delighted, the bonus for me is no rain and sludgey muddy ground with flooded roads everywhere.

If we catch the odd local flurry that'd be nice but like Mooms I've learned not expect anything. I get my real snow fix in the Alps every spring these days.

I hope that if their is a breakdown of sorts that we can at least get a decent pattern from Christmas. 18th is the core day, which leaves a week for us to get something exciting

Sustained cold to the end of the reliable range (t120).

Within that time period, hard frost, largely scattered coastal snow and hail showers and a front flirting with the south west coast on the t36 fax
Fax charts always the way forwards.  The cold is in and snow chances (albeit limited) will follow.  Coastal fringes favoured.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this wintry weather though the gas bill is an "ouch"!

Nicely put. I suspect the majority of those looking at the week after next would if snapped your hand at the end of November if they were offered what we’ll get for the next week.
As for snow - you can repeat it ad nauseum but some don’t let it in - difficult to forecast, but once the cold is in it will crop up unexpectedly.

FAO Saint

If some of the high-res models are correct you could be in for some heavy snow tonight. Slow moving streamers off the Irish Sea. One to watch.

This is the Harmonie model but a few others are similar. Not universal though.

Tuesday could turn out to be interesting for the channel coast. The fax does show an easterly brisk wind with 850s at around -6. This could set up wintery showers, however nothing except the odd shower has been forecast so far.

On the subject of the extended range, should the increasing signs of a rather feeble change back to westerlies next weekend materialise, then fair play to GFS whose suite has been signalling it for several runs now. GEM and EC also on board.
This however is a long way off and of course subject to change.

I disagree as long as it is cold and sunny and frosty. Unfortunately the cloud has now set in, taking the temperature up from -6C yesterday evening to just -2C. I hope that wasn’t it for sun in this spell.

I think most of us here are just desperate for snow. And when we finally seemingly get all the ingredients it still doesn't snow it is very annoying.  Still we have about 9 days to get some before it turns milder so still hope.

18/19th firming up to be the end of the cold spell. 9 day window to get some snow.

I think it is a vvery slim hope only Ally.Looking at all the charts, there is just no sign whatsoever of anything, other than possibly a few light flurries along the coast. When we come to assess this cold spell out of ten, I fear it will be a 2 or 3 for most, because snow is going to be non existent for the majority.

Here's the 10 day accumulated precip charts from GFS and ECM, in case anyone was curious. Very dry for some, not dry for others - take with a generous pinch of salt.
