We arrived back home at 10.30am this morning in time for Her Majestys funeral after a 3 day surprise birthday party for my wifes Aunty who celebrated her 80th birthday at Camber Sands Holiday Park in East Sussex.
A cool 17.4c hallway temperature greeted us.
The combination of clear skies and single digit minima overnight coupled with afternoon convective infill has resulted in a huge net loss. We also kept the curtains open meaning that what was gained during the afternoon was soon lost as soon as the sunset. I'm surprised its cooled so quickly to be honest. After a very warm summer I thought there would be a little more residual warmth held in.
Sunshine coming through the west facing windows at 2pm has improved the situation to 18.5c just now but cloud has started to increase preventing the warmth building indoors. The outside temperature is around 18c, as a result there is little point opening the doors.
We've taken the decision to set the thermostat to 18c this winter. The central heating will remain off and will only be switched on when fine sunny days fail to get us to that 18c value.
