Now the heavy sleet/ wet snow as well as freezing rain has left us there is a sheet of ice and actually the temperature has fallen back to 0.5c from a high of 1.6c early hours after a low of -2.1c last night. The little slush on cars has now frozen to ice.

Just been out to take some photos in Wiltshire, our roads were like that as well, 5cm snow and -1c.

Some of the hills were interesting drive, but sensibly we have winter tyres on one car so could drive up hills on the snow covered roads no problem.  Actually they are better than summer tyres in the wet below +10c so well worth the investment

Flakes are quite fine here but loads of them. Hard to see down to the end of the street.

Watching falling snow is one of my favourite things in the world.

Sounds like you did well to the North and East of here. 2cm in North Bristol which I’m happy with.

Looking at the radar we were right under one of the heaviest bits. Almost at the back edge already though, that’s only about half an hour? It needs to start pivoting if the forecast of more prolonged snow is to come off.

Settled readily on all surfaces but only 1-2cm so far.

Absolutely massive flakes here, 2 inches across. Can’t think I’ve ever seen such big ones! Winter wonderland out there, easily an inch so far. Going out to play 🙂

Hope it keeps falling - Dartmoor has done well so far - a good covering there too:

All the showers here now are falling as hail as the slightly cooler air circulates around the system.

Sounds like my experience last night! Seems to be a good few showers on their way to you so hopefully those might deliver for you.

I've been out and done some measuring and on the grass it's 2.3/4 inches and 2.1/2 on other surfaces so not quite the three inches, but then may have been earlier as now it's started the inevitable drip, drip.

The briefest of transient snowfalls here in Witney but has deposited about an inch and a half and is now thawing away.
If this is as good as it gets this winter, which I daresay it will be, at least I've seen some for the first time since 2018.
Now let's have an early spring please.

That's a tautology.

Glad you got a decent amount of snow there!

It was transient in nature but the flakes were pretty large. To be fair, I have now had 2 decent snowfalls this winter, including one on my birthday, so that is far better than most years.

However, the wait for a long standing cold and snowy spell goes on for me personally, given that I was in Australia for December 2010 and the Beast from the East in 2018.

The lightest of snow falling on a frost.

Looks like polystyrene balls floating about.

Has made everything go more white, but you can measure the distance between each snow flake on the floor... so aint much yet
