Winds at LHR still from the NE / E, which is not the ideal direction for Heathrow maxes. It likes a good strong S or SE flow bouncing over the downs. May get that a bit later as the low pressure edges up towards us.

A humidex of 40C in London.

Looking at that Reading link yesterday’s max of 34.6 came at the very late time of 1637Z, ie 5.37pm BST. I think the Berks/Hants/Wilts area seems to be the centre of the heat today.
Edit: 34.5 now reached at Reading.

Is that the same Whiteknights site that the Met use? The max recorded yesterday there is 34.6 but the official Met Office list of maxima for yesterday has 35.0:
Boscombe Down 33.0°C, Kenley 33.2°C, Larkhill 33.6°C, Middle Wallop 33.9°C, Farnborough 34.5°C, Odiham and Farnham (Alice Holt Lodge) 34.6°C, London St James’s Park 34.8°C, Reading University 35.0°C, Northolt 35.2°C, Wisley 35.4°C, Heathrow 35.7°C.
Incidentally it’s very rare for Odiham or Alice Holt to go higher than Farnborough in summer as they are more rural sites, but both were higher yesterday.
Shot up to 35.5c here. Something building just to my north too.

Big storm clouds here now almost out of nowhere and the rumble of thunder.
Looking at that Reading page (now up to 34.6 btw), it's amazing how the temperature is bobbing up and down there... either fast-moving clouds or a really, really sensitive sensor!!

I am sure many of you notice the temps rise well when cloud above you.
