In the last half hour it has shot up to 35.6c with towering thunder clouds and rumbles of thunder everynow and then to the south west.

The Monday temperature was actually likely to be higher than 35.5, as that was the highest hourly reading. For some reason the daily 6pm synop report didn't include a maximum temp, so it looks like 35.5 will go down in the records. Potentially a 36C missed out.

Meanwhile despite the cloud the temp here has hit a new high of 34.2.

Looks like this stubborn sheet of cloud over Kent is stopping anything here. I have never known a period down here with so little storm activity. Even the stuff from France dies crossing the channel this year.

Gloucestershire airport 35C now. Not sure if that's a Met Office station (Staverton)?

Its been a bit touch and go here as to whether 30c would be achieved today. This due to occasional cloud cover and briefly the very rare and brief appearance of a light sea breeze.

Skies have cleared, we've lost the sea breeze and a recovery has taken place. As a result 30c has been breached again (7 days out of 7)

A truly remarkable achievement given I'm only a mile or so inland from the coast !

30.4 / 21.1c

I reckon this has pissed all over 1976 locally.

That's amazing. Is that a local record? I know Cheltenham has been higher.

Either way it is still hotter than ANY day in the 1980s which is what I wanted to check.

And in the past fortnight we have had 3 of the 15 hottest days ever recorded! And after today, five of the top 25 I believe.

Thunder almost constant here now and the showers are knocking temperatures back at the hotspots, Heathrow down to 31 in the rain on the METAR

The West country sites are often a bit later to peak on hot days, so I wonder if we may have a top temperature somewhere in the Severn valley today. Would make a change from the relentless concentration on the SE. Tomorrow may be a day for Mildenhall, Lakenheath or Norwich as is so often the case at the tail end of a diminishing heatwave.

I'm surprised it hasn't dropped more in a thunderstorm. Here the temperature has dropped from 32C to 22C in 30 minutes!

Heathrow was still 30.2. Here it has dropped from 34 to 26C and still falling, even though there has been only a drop or two of rain.

Cloud now broken here after everything developed to the west of here. Temp now shooting up again.

Staverton seems to have stopped sending METARS, the 1520 and 1550 were blank.

Pershore (34.1) and Brize Norton (34.2) hanging on to the heat.
