Now up to 5 days consecutively with 34+C recorded somewhere in the UK and a sixth coming up, never before recorded (apologies to Scotland and NI)

Down to 24.8 now and the dewpoint's also falling. It does feel slightly fresher out there too, so I suspect it's the sea breeze kicking in.

All eyes on convection today spoiling the heat party. Ideally here in London we stay clear until 5pm then have something cataclysmic just as the sun is going down, with enough fearsome downdrafts and evaporative cooling to sort out my increasingly intolerable indoor temperatures.

So far so sunny: https://en.sat24.com/en/gb

Nice, I have a VP2+ (So all the UV Solar gubbins), with 24hour FARS. Not had a problem with the solar power for the FARS and not had to change the battery at all (3 years now).

Really stifling heat this morning. 28.8 at Heathrow at 10 is a degree higher than yesterday.

Blackbushe currently 27.7

That’s about 2.5C higher than the same time yesterday.

Funnily enough I was on exactly 28.2C at 1000. Now we're up to 29.6C after an overnight low of 20.1C, easily my highest ever. I've had enough of this heat now!

It looks hard to stay sunny in the afternoon. The Chilterns look good for t-storms this evening.

27.6C here now after 19.2C over night low so here joining the SE heat and I might see low 30's by afternoon.  Stingy hot morning sun and put all the washing out today after seeing many days of rain/storms ahead.

Mostly cloudy here now as the little blob of cloud over Kent swings NW'wards - no complaints here, the temperature is now 24.1 and falling! It's even - remarkably - falling upstairs too.

The dewpoint's still high though: 19.8C, so there's a limit to how much cooler it can get.

Nonetheless, a welcome respite from the heat. The VP2 a mile to the north of me reports a similar drop too, so it's something affecting the area rather than just me.

Still three degrees down on July 25 last year which was 31.6C at Heathrow by 10am. That has to be the most remarkable 10am temperature on record. Looking at the hourly figures it probably passed 30C at around 9.30 in the morning that day.

The encouraging thing is any cloud cover looks as though it will be home grown. Nothing advecting up from France that's close enough to trouble us in the early afternoon, and little sign of convective activity yet in the far North of France that would give us an afternoon cirrus shroud.

I can see the regional models all planning some big bubbling up from mid levels this afternoon though. Just need some relative luck over at least one of the hotspot weather stations (or a hot early peak).

Arome 0z thinks we already have 100% high cloud cover, oddly. It has a storm passing over London early-mid afternoon.

Temperature rise definitely slower than yesterday albeit from an earlier start. Top 11am reading seems to be 29.8 at Heathrow.

I’d estimate a high of around 33 point something today but would be nice to scrape 34.

Not one for keeping stats but it’s already showing 30c at Southend at 11.08am which is usually a few degrees down on the highest. Very uncomfortable.
