Was down at meetings in the SE yesterday and was driving back mid-late afternoon. Temp was around 8c near London and fell only gradually as I moved north to 6.5c until I reached near Leamington Spa on the M40 when I hit the first heavy shower of hail/sleet/snow. Within a minute the temp had dropped to 2.5c, then the drop slowed but ended up at 1.5c during a particularly heavy wet snow shower on the M6 toll road. There was a thin sheen of icy stoff on the grass, but no lying snow. Driving was fun!
Once out of the showers, the temp recovered to 4c, before then falling away again as I continued north.
At home, the showers have mostly started as hail then turned to snow, but again nothing sticking (apart from a temporary covering of hail). Walked into work from the car park in a freezing wind and heavy wet snow shower.
