Hail showers have now turned to snow showers here in Ilkley

A short while ago, sleet and wet snow was falling here in the north of Edinburgh

That precipitation has now stopped for now, but there is a good covering of snow on the Pentland Hills and even Arthur's Seat which is close to the city centre here in Edinburgh, has a slight dusting of snow on top of it so I would imagine that there might at the very least, be a dusting of snow on those higher parts in the south of Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Had some wet snow here too.
Unfortunately I don't see anything settling here. Temperature doesn't seem to be going below 2c at 200masl any point, think 350m plus for meaningful snow around these parts.

Temperature drops markedly during showers so they start as sleet and end as big snow flakes.
Wind blows them through so fast not amounting to anything but it was white higher up for a while about 8am.

Wish I had booked this week off instead of last week.
Normally I take a winter break somewhere in Scotland to see some snow although didn't bother this year and last year given how poor snow chances have been.
A couple of years back went to Tyndrum north of Loch Lomond and saw a fair bit of snow, would be a good spot to be in this week.

Tim I think snow will start to settle around our patch later this afternoon and tonight. Until then it's rain, hail sleet and a bit of wet snow

Here in the north of Edinburgh, it got very dark for a while before there was then quite a heavy fall of sleet, wet snow and graupel which is still ongoing just now as I write. With the strong winds as well, that has reduced the visibility by quite a lot and as I write, that has also started to produce a very slushy deposit on the roads and pavements which is going to make the conditions for walking around, very tricky indeed.

Having a look at some observations and forecasts, I think there is the potential for some significant snowfall this afternoon for some places , mainly above 200m though. The northern edge of the precipitation in the Irish Sea/N Wales, could cause some snowfall across parts of the Midlands and Southern parts of N England. Buxton/Huddersfield/Peak district looks in the firing line. All depends on intensity of precipitation.

Seeing some falling snow here in west Worcestershire, for the first time since March 2018 - not settling, but some white stuff falling from the sky.

Here in Edinburgh, it's been snowing quite heavily for quite a while now with some very big flakes at times but as of yet, none of that is actually lying here in the north of Edinburgh.

Not sure if there was anything wintry in the big blob of ppn that passed just to the north of here earlier. A bit of small hail in the heaviest burst we got from the southern edge of it.

Light graupel has turned to steady light snow here, dusting on all surfaces. Looks like the precipitation has started to spin on the radar, colder air digging in behind the precipitation band. A nice surprise
