It's misleading! As i have read some papers from some journalists and reporters etc stating something along the lines of-  "last April 2018 the temperature had already reached 30c in places" ETC! - is not correct if the highest was 29.1c recorded on 19th April 2018!? I know i am being pedantic but what they meant was temperatures were in their high 20's in places. - that's really what they meant as it's more accurate.

AND YES - I remember that hot day in April last year on 19th (Thursday) as i boarded a Ryaniar flight to Budapest - that evening and gosh the HEAT WHEN WE BOARDED that evening!? - There was no air con! The outdoor temp was like 25c or 26c and on plane before take-off as we boarded the indoor temp on the plane must have been in the 30's! I remember there was a thunderstorm as well so flight was delayed too as couldn't take off due to lightning! We were stuck on the runway for almost an hour due to the storm - was around 6pm ish if i remember.

So...  Have we have yet to reach 30c so far in the UK this summer!?

That’s the media for you Tally!  They always exaggerate the weather because it’s always a talking point for us Brits and it sells papers.  Your account of the April storm reminds me that I was sat in a plane on the airport apron for almost 3 hours in a snow storm on 1st March last year, courtesy of the beast from the east.

I haven’t reached 30c and the highest official monthly figures suggest it hasn’t been reached yet.

19th April - 25.8c in Cornwall.  15th May - 25.8c in Scotland.  Not quite Land’s End to John O’Groats but nice to see the warmth shared North and South. We also had record breaking temps in February with 21.2c being recorded in London.

Last year, we officially hit 30c on 25th June and we may do the same this year.  All eyes on Tuesday then!

That is correct

The models seem to be really struggling at the moment with temperature forecasts for this week

Let's look at tomorrow (Monday) as an example and see what the highest forecast temperatures are. There appears to be a range of 25C-32C for just 24 hours ahead. So good luck trying to forecast the rest of the week!

We know GFS tends to understate the temperatures and the HARMONIE model is an outlier with its 32C.

Best guess for tomorrow is a maximum of 27-29C somewhere in East Anglia. Potentially it could be the hottest day of the year but more likely will probably fall just short.

Most models have Tuesday as cooler than Monday interestingly.

Highest forecast temperatures for Monday:

GFS 0z operational - 25C in East Anglia

Sod's Law that is, re your situation on Thursday 1st March!!

Devon was in the midst of the powdery blizzard then. - We had 6" of snow in 4-5 hours!! Remarkable the 1st March 2018!! - really was a memorable day, powdery drifts like sand dunes too snow blowing off rooftops daytime maxes of -3c windchill of -10c and uppers of -14c.

Back to the here and now - doesn't look like much of a heatwave this week for London/home countries! Just warm and humid and yet to crack the 30c mark: A day or so back the BBC weather had London at 32c by Tuesday and 33c by Wednesday...!? Now maxes of 25 or 26c.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2643743

I guess this will all depends on these thunderstorms - clearly they will have an impact on our daytime maxes ..!

Glad this summer is actually providing thunderstorms and of some interest. Gosh last summer 2018 we didn't see many if any storms. We just weeks and months of hot and dry weather= boring!

Great effort as always GW.  Interesting BBC forecast just now going for 32c in the West Country at the end of the week. Which goes against most of the output from the models which is much cooler. Basically BBC now agreeing with the Met Office that the models are over doing the low temps.

Today despite being overcast feels properly warm and muggy. 22C already in London and I think a bright spot will manage 26C today. That to my mind makes it the first day of the “warm spell”.

Talking of terminology I like the European definition of 25C+ as a “summer day”. Captures it nicely I think.

Putting 32C at the end of the week there scope to upgrade as they often do on heatwaves as I remember starting 26C then upgraded to 33C in June 7th 1996 heatwave, that was 7C upgrade temps rise.

With E/NE wind directions expect some of the hottest temps to be along south Hampshire & Dorset.

I would expect to see some extremely high temperatures in the west of Ireland this week. Any sort of airmass ENE'ly or ESE'ly combined with these unusually high uppers would give T2M potential of 32c (90f) I would have thought.

First warm night of the summer expected down here tonight with an overnight (humid) low of just 18C on the cards.

Nightmarish for Chunky Pea and Retron but great for the tomatoes.

Not that much of a nightmare, TBH; the high was 21C here today and it's been overcast all day so it's not turned into a greenhouse.

The humidity's quite noticable but it's not anything exceptional (yet!)

EDIT: 19.0C here at the moment. The sea is colder than that, so I'd expect it'll be below the 17C minimum that the MetO automated has for here.

The nightmare begins tomorrow for urban dwellers without ac in France and Germany.

Heat and humidity, both day and night, are at 2003 levels next week and it’s looking increasingly like being as sustained on the continent for just as long.

August 2003 happened towards the end of the season. Apparently early season heatwaves are more deadly as people’s bodies have not yet become accustomed to the heat.

Public health systems are better attuned now though. Amazing to think 2003 was a full 16 years ago.

Not far off 25C here and it's still 23C now as i type with Dps still around 18C.

Temperature isn't expected to drop below 20C until around 1am and the low of 18C not expected until around 4am.

And it's been quite sticky today.

Edit: The warm overnight temps tonight were for this part of the region 🙂 and they were also on the mets video forecast earlier today.

We'll probably see the odd 43-44C in France on Thu, with a small chance of 45C.

Humidity wise it  was quite unpleasant here this afternoon when doing some manual work.  Had a  period of light rain   late afternoon and   now seems a tad fresher.  The Countryfile graphics have us in poll position for storms tomorrow night.
