Let's not forget as well that at this time last year, temperatures were even getting above 30°C here in Scotland (though not quite at any of my own three local stations here in Edinburgh due to a local sea breeze).

That will therefore make it even more amazing if not a single place in the whole of the UK has got above 30°C during this year so far since you would normally at the very least, be expecting the SE of England to be seeing those sorts of temperatures by now.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

yes exactly! Looks like once again the UK will miss out on the fun weatherwise!

So I assume we have yet to record 30c here in the UK this summer so far? Last April 18 we hit 30 and in May we hit 30c at least twice and June into July there was weeks of 30c or above for the SE esp between 22nd June and 12th July!! - Where the heat was at it's peak! I remember and that was intense!!

For all time national records to fall in June really would be freakish. Certainly a host of national monthly records under threat. All time ones may be harder (and France’s 44.1C in 2003 looks safe).

Not yet.  But we didn't see 30c in the UK last year until the 25th June.

It did hit 29.1c in London on the 19th April though

Last year wasn’t at all average though and there were quite a few date records broken, so it can’t really be used as a measure.  As much as many of us hoped for another Spring/Summer like 2018, I don’t think it would have realistically been expected.  A bit like measuring winters to 2010, we’ve had a look at what we could have won!

There’s still plenty of time to get some hot days and having good weather in August, when English schools are off, would be a nice change!

It hasn't even reached 21C yet here.
Mind last year only had a handful of days over 25C, no more than usual.
And highest max was 27.9C, could do better.

Last year there were no days in April or May that reached 30c in the UK and it wasn’t reached until the end of June, when Wales was the hottest.  So I think there is still time to equal that.

Officially speaking no there wasn't however official temps got very close in both April & May so its very likely some did locally reach 30C in the southeast.

Media around Europe and even the US starting to pick this up:

https://actualite.lachainemeteo.com/actualite-meteo/2019-06-22/la-canicule-de-la-semaine-prochaine-sera-exceptionnelle-51372

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/weather-europe-heatwave-temperature-uk-forecast-france-germany-italy-spain-a8969406.html%3famp

https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/Europe-Awaits-Record-Smashing-June-Heat-Wave

We may be getting excited about touching the mid 30s but for continental Europe this early in the season I have a feeling this could be freakish. I really don’t remember GFS (with its apparent “cold bias”) showing 40C for consecutive days in places like Frankfurt or Dortmund before.

Watch the news coverage ramp up, particularly in France where media weather coverage is much better and more scientifically informed than our tabloid efforts here. They get a 2 page stat-laden special on how cattle farmers are suffering from low soil moisture levels. We get a picture of bikini clad sunbathers “enjoying the heatwave conditions”, a packed Brighton beach, or kids “cooking off” in some city centre fountain.

Yes , but you are an unusual  location that rarely sees real heat due to height , proximity to the North Sea e.t.c. Last year places far further north than your location recorded 30.c  e.g. Altnaharra.  Indeed last year in late July the car thermometer was saying 30.c at Loch Buidhe in Sutherland at over 1000 feet  It is like saying even on the South coast it is never hot on the Isle of Portland.

Indeed. My location in North Yorkshire got to 22c today.

This coming week will be a classic example of 20 miles inland from the east coast equating to 8c on the temperatures, especially if you are in the shadow of higher ground.

Top temperature today was 24C at Northolt and Heathrow.

Even if this heatwave disappoints I’d expect somewhere to reach 25C+ every day for the next week, until Saturday at least.

Night minima will be interesting. Raw output across ECM and GFS currently showing high teens in London early in the week and low 20s from Wed onwards.
