And what an incredible contrast to this time last year. This spell is equally as unusual as the BFTE, but for warmth and sunshine instead of cold and snow.

This spell is notable here as temps in double figures in Feb are normally acoompanied by copious amounts of fog, drizzle or heavy rain.

So what if March comes in like a Lion?

As long as we then slip back to a similar 'double the average temp for the time of year' type synoptic I'll be most pleased!

Nice to see the GFS performing much as I'd suspected and watering down any 'cold' signal out in FI over the past week to a more 'believable ( to me at least) 1040 mb sat on us at runs end with only the mirest flirtation with sub minus 5 850 mbs on our way to there.

I do think that the constant return to a H.P. dominated position is set to continue ( strengthen?) a while yet promising us a crackin' start to the year with a warm,gentle Spring rolling into a scorchio summer!

We all can dream!

*If , post 2012, the downstream arm of the polar Jet's average station that set's up the Uk's 'weather experience'  is now one that sets up H.P. after H.P. ( a move from the 'trough' that sent us the 'washout' years?)then it will continue to settle into its pattern as the years roll on?

If this proves so then for this pattern to change again we'll need another 2012 like change to the energies being absorbed, and released, in the Arctic to further 'tweak' the amplitude/frequency of the 'average' Polar Jet Pattern that sets up our weathers here in the Uk?.*

Im quite happy with this weather, I’m done with cold and damp now.

We are being spoilt by this early burst of spring and the chances are we won't see weather like this again in the next month, but far from awful.

March is normally a very changeable month and so it's just looking like we may get a spell of normal early spring weather after this magnificent spell is over.

The night before last is when it troubled me. I'm used to feeling the heat of the sun on the 'good days' in early spring , look forward to it in fact!, but not the mild after twilight that has you able to sit out and watch the moon without coats!

We have all felt an 'Arctic Plunge' but maybe we should now expect the flip side of such chaotic exchanges and accept the WAA flowing over us to replace the airs lost to some other beggars 'arctic plunge' ( like the u.s. appears to have had over the west?) 

No matter what sets up these 'repeating patterns' they do seem to be becoming more common around the world and if we are settling into a new one that has H.P. dominance at its core we might want to be aware of it with summer on its way?

I'd choose a different set of bedding plants If I knew we had a long hot one on the way!

No heatwave here today.

Instead of that, we have an easterly breeze with the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh now dropping to just 7.6°C as at 3pm.

In addition to that, we also have that east coast haar closing in here which is something which we wouldn't normally expected to see until well into the spring and summer.

However, that is an indication of just how warm, that air mass actually is at its source, which is a big difference from this time last year when the winds from that same easterly direction were bringing in plenty of snow showers.

In January and December, yeah, but double digits with sunshine is much less uncommon in February. The Atlantic is usually quiet at this time of year.

Apologies I should have clarified in my post that I meant for my location. More often than not temps into double figures here in Feb are from a moist tropical SW wind.  Probably ok for your location to the East of the Pennines in terms of seeing the sun. Here that often means quite poor weather.

Max today was a staggering 16.4c. The warmest I've ever recorded in February by nearly 2 degrees I reckon.

Of note was the low humidity...just 26% at 3.45pm, accompanied by a dewpoint of -5c !

I didn't think it possible to import a warm continental feed in February 

Have just fired up the Windows 98 laptop that carries my VP2 data.

Will report the situation.  Worth noting that in my cycling and walking around east Kent today the car thermometer maxed at 16c near Waldershare. Felt more like May than February.  Ludicrous is the word.  At least I now have a tan!

Solar panels were kicking out 2.3kw today, very impressive for February.

Max, my Windows 98 Beast  tells me was 13.1.  Proximity to the coast critical.  A superb weekend of weather.

My VP2 recorded 18.4C here today. 

Very thick fog here too, it descended around 5pm. 

The fog cleared around half 10 this morning but it remained hazy all day. Max temp of 14C today do not as warm as yesterday but a very pleasant early spring day nevertheless.

19.1C the max at Gogerddan yesterday, and 19.0 at Hampton Waterworks.

I went for a long bike ride ending at the pub yesterday. After starting off in frost it soon warmed up in the sun and there were masses of brimstone butterflies out and about. It was warm enough to sit in the pub garden in a T-shirt, with hardly a breath of wind. More like a day in early May than late February, and only three weeks after we were out sledging!

-0.8C and 16.1C the min and max at Farnborough.

Meanwhile another sharp frost here this morning and a near-20C diurnal range looks likely.
