Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that my final total for August comes out as 55.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 69.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 81.1% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 114.6% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during August.
Overall, this shows that in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, August was a drier than month at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but a wetter than average month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. When you balance everything out though, we are more or less say that the rainfall amounts in this part of the world were around average during August.
However, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 12 official rain days during August and this shows that it was a wetter than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 107.1% of the 1981-2010 average. It is a similar story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which had 14 official rain days with that amounting to 144.3% of the 1981-2010 average.

This means that in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, it was a drier than average summer overall at both of those stations.
In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 26 official rain days during the summer which is 81.8% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 29 official rain days during the summer which is 100.7% of the 1981-2010 average.
This means that in terms of the number of official rain days, Edinburgh Gogarbank had a drier than average summer, whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh actually had a slightly wetter than average summer in terms of the number of official rain days.
Over the year so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 420.4 mm of rain which is 55.7% of the 1981-2010 averages whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 424.4 mm of rain during this year so far which is 60.3% of the 1981-2010 average.
