In the end, a total of 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, this morning has been completely dry so far at both of those stations as at 8am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 24.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 122.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 390.0 mm as at 8am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 35.4 mm, the total for this summer so far to 119.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 390.8 mm as at 8am this morning.

The general outlook in the immediate future is fairly unsettled, but that doesn't necessarily mean that this month will be any wetter than average in the end, and the latest GFS output for the next 10 days shows it being drier than average in this part of the world.

I would imagine that this would be due to not too many showers reaching here (as we saw yesterday) and most frontal systems being fairly weak when they reach here.

So far as at 2pm this afternoon, a total of 0.8 mm of rain has fallen during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 25.4 mm, the total for this summer so far to 123.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 390.8 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 36.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 120.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 392.0 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

This means that just one more official rain day is needed to occur at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to then end up being wetter than average at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the number of official rain days. Since tomorrow is likely to bring about the remnants of ex-tropical storm Ernesto, that fate could well be sealed over the course of this weekend.

In the end, a total of 0.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 12.4 mm of rain has fallen during this morning so far as at 8am this morning, along with 15.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This makes today, the wettest day of this month so far at both of those stations, and those might not necessarily be the final totals for today in the end.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 37.8 mm, the total for this summer so far to 135.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 403.2 mm as at 8am this morning.

This means that four more official rain days need to occur between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to end up being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 52.0 mm, the total for this summer so far to 136.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 407.4 mm as at 8am this morning.

Since the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens during this month so far is more than the 1981-2010 August average, this month will now go down as being wetter than average at the botanic gardens in terms of the number of official rain days, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

In addition to that, just another 8.3 mm of rain needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month in order for this month to be wetter than average at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the actual rainfall amount.

Since the outlook for the next few days in particular is continuing to look rather unsettled, there is quite a good chance that this might end up happening although this is unlikely to be enough to prevent this summer as a whole, from being drier than average in the end.

21.4mm, a common theme is wet day expected (e.g. today) but it passes through faster than expected and amounts are rather trivial.
August average is 85mm here, making it one of the wettest months. Only November is usually higher at 100mm
Luckily the heavy July showers means no real drought issue anymore but a little more would be welcome.

Weather station fairly local to me has recorded 54mm (ish) for the month so far with rain on 8 days, albeit 2 of those days totals were negligible.

In the end, a total of 15.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 18.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, this morning has been completely dry so far at both of those stations as at 7am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 41.0 mm, the total for this summer so far to 139.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 406.4 mm as at 7am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 54.8 mm, the total for this summer so far to 139.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 410.2 mm as at 7am this morning.

This means that just another 5.5 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This month is already going to go down as a wetter than average month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the number of the official rain days since there has already been more official rain days there during this month so far, than the 1981-2010 August average.

6.4mm on the 15/16th to add, plus 1.2mm on 18th/19th from Ernesto's remains have aided the lawns' recovery but still just 25.2mm so far this month. Maybe the Bank Holiday weather jinx could apply to give the garden borders a proper drink! Still bone dry just an inch or two below ground level.

So far as at 2pm this afternoon, a total of 0.6 mm of rain has fallen during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 41.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 139.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 407.0 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 55.2 mm, the total for this summer so far to 139.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 410.6 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

In the end, a total of 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 5.8 mm of rain has fallen during this morning so far as at 12 noon, along with 5.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 47.4 mm, the total for this summer so far to 145.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 412.8 mm as at 12 noon.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 60.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 144.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 416.0 mm as at 12 noon.

Since more rain has now fallen at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh during this month so far than the 1981-2010 August average for that location, this month will now go down as being a wetter than average month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the amount of rainfall, as well as the number of official rain days. That will be the case regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, it is a completely story as at least another 20.5 mm of rain still needs to fall there between now and the of the month in order for this month to then end up being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts. That is still possible and the general immediate outlook is still fairly unsettled. However, both the GFS and ECMWF models point to the next 7 to 10 days being drier than average overall which would therefore, render that is being unlikely.

However, only another three official rain days are needed between now and the end of this month in order to make this month wetter than average there in terms of the number of official rain days at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and that is something which is far more feasible.

In the end, a total of 5.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 5.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 1.4 mm of rain has fallen during today so far as at 6pm this evening, along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 48.8 mm, the total for this summer so far to 146.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 414.2 mm as at 6pm this evening.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 60.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 144.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 416.0 mm as at 6pm this evening.

Just at least two more rain official rain days need to occur at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month, for this month to go down as being wetter than average at that station in terms of the number of official rain days.

However, at least another 19.1 mm of rain needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average at that station, in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

According to the latest model output, that remains possible but unlikely, despite the fact that the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is already going down as being officially wetter than average during this month both in terms of the actual rainfall amount, and of the number of official rain days.
