Conclusion

April 2024 was a slightly warmer than average month overall although unlike in other parts of the UK which were actually warmer overall, our temperatures were fairly close to average although the number of air frosts was once again below average.

It was also a substantially wetter than average month with more than twice our 1991-2020 April average rainfall but most of that rain fell during the first half of the month with the second half of the month being much drier.

Once again though, April 2024 was yet another duller than average and to date, we still haven't had a sunnier than average month here since January.😡
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Utter garbage and a toss-up between this and April 2012 as to what was the worst ever April. 2012 was duller and colder with no warmth at all but at least had the interest of snow, frost and more importantly no Weekend Curse.

Mean Max: 10.4C (-0.7C) - should be shaded blue not white in the Met Offices fraudulent map. Was artifically inflated by two very warm days as well. Not a single air frost with a low of +0.3C the same as April 2011 which had a mean max over 4C warmer.

Rainfall: 111.6mm (221%) Utterly awful and rain duration was probably the highest ever for April with a shocking 122.1 hours which exceeded that of the wettest ever April (1934) by 20 hours despite that April having 60mm more rain. Only four completely dry days.

Sunshine: 124.1 hours (77%) - dullest since 2012 with six completely sunless days following on from seven last year. Looks like you'd have to go back to the 1930s to find successive Aprils each with at least six sunless days.
