It's noticable how rapidly the ground has dried round here due to the constant strong breeze, low dew points and plants and trees starting to draw it from the ground. It won't be long before us gardeners in the S.E will be hoping for rain and I didn't think I would be saying that till June two week ago!

Add the sun onto that. As I pointed out to the folks at the wolf centre on Saturday, it's now as strong as it is at the back end of August, so has a lot of drying power. (It also effortlessly heats the upstairs of my house into the low 20s, despite it only being 12C at most yesterday outside!)

The ground at the wolf centre (a few miles SW of Reading, in the hills) went from a bit muddy to dry in the space of a week.

It's been a dry month so far here, anyway. 22mm of rain so far (of which 7mm came in a very localised storm), which is only 65% of the average amount we should have had at this point in April.

Unfortunately April marks the return of 100mm+ months around here, after a very close respite in March. The current total stands at 101.4mm to the end of the 26th, with the vast majority of that falling in the first half.

20mm and counting but not really worthy of a warning as it's been rather dry for a while. If everything was still waterlogged like at the beginning of the month then yes perhaps a warning might have been warranted.

A remarkable 27.6mm of rain yesterday here, with probably a bit more to come today. It *was* (emphasis on *was*) looking like a drier than average month here, but that's gone out the window now!

Not only have the models handled temperatures poorly, it seems they can't handle rainfall properly either - although UKV did up the intensity at the last minute, GFS stuck with less than 10mm throughout.

EDIT: That was the wettest day here since the 3rd November 2022, which saw 42mm fall.

29.4mm so far today - we'd had 25mm by 8am!

This month: 82.8 mm

The 50 year average for April in this neck of the woods is about 44mm.
“You may kill an artist or a thinker, but you cannot acquire his art or his thought. You may put a man to death because he loves his fellow-men, but you will not by so doing acquire the love which made his happiness. Force is impotent in such matters; it is only as regards material goods that it is effective. For this reason the men who believe in force are the men whose thoughts and desires are preoccupied with material goods.“ — Bertrand Russell
