Hadley ticks us up to 14.0;

But of course, with downwards corrections we're probably only at 13.7.

Looks like I'll be a full 1C out. That will cost me some points.

It's been a odd month. Up at my Dartmoor AWS last week has only seen about 24 hours drop below 14C (it's been warmer here by the coast for sure) here but, otoh, only about as many hours have got above 16C. Mean AWS mean temperature for the month: 13.2C.

My luck ran out, fair enough, hoping October is kinder, after all my birthday falls at the end of it

What the hell 14.1C to 13.7C this is taking the mickey. And to Artzeman: you are fine, you might even get a nice downard correction. Have a bit of sympathy for those that went too hot!

It is the effect of the month end adjustments. The data published daily during the month is only provisional and is subject to quality control and other adjustments to get to the final figure. These adjustments are only done at the month and are partly to ensure the data is consistent with historic data right back to when the series started. If you look back at my charts from a few days back you will see I was anticipating 13.7C as the final figure after adjustments and that is what we got.

Here are the final charts for September. Sorry they are late. A very average month overall but a real mix of cooler and warmer weather within that.

Annual CET competition update – September

An interesting month as a number of people in the top 10 had fairly large prediction errors this month. We lost one person from the competition - Llamedos.

Nemi has a second month in the top spot with a significantly extended lead which is now just over 1C.

Taylor1740 remains in second but only just ahead of The Professional who has moved ahead of Norseman.

Weathermac and Roonie are both up three places this month.

Stormchaser and Easterly Beasterly go three places in the other direction.

Gavin P squeezes into tenth place for the second time this year.

Further down the table we have a number of significant risers headed by nouska. Essan, Surrey John, Sussex snow magnet and domma are the others.

alan (no prediction) and Global Warming are the biggest fallers of the month.

markwells and vince are now rather adrift at the bottom of the table.
