Another thing which I forgot to mention as well, is that all of those people who predicted a front-loaded summer this year (and there was quite a few predictions like that on various internet forums) are probably already eating their words out as a result of what has happened so far. To me, I always had a funny feeling that this would end up being anything but a front-loaded summer. I can remember just six months ago when a lot of people predicted a front-loaded winter (based on a bit of colder weather last November which didn't even deliver any snow) which in the end, just never happened.

It therefore comes as no surprise that this is now (at the moment at least) happening with our summer as well (I suspect that such a prediction would probably have been largely based on all of that dry weather which we had beforehand and in particular, the brief mini heatwave which we had in May). Of course, there probably wasn't quite as many people predicting a front-loaded summer as the number of people who predicted a front-loaded winter six months ago, but there was still a sizeable number of people who came up with that sort of prediction for this summer.

Yet another awful day as the wait for the first dry day in one of the worst summers of all time goes on and on. Raining yet again when we have already had 76mm this month

Yet another mind-bogglingly vile summer that has you scratching your head and asking just how the hell it is possible for things to be this bad?

Yet another summer unlike anything pre-2007. In fact it is diabolical even compared to the worst we've had over the past decade. At the same stage of 2012 - the worst in recorded history - I'd recorded only 17.8mm and four dry days. This is just incredulous and nothing I can find to compare it with.

Even the lack of sun in 2012 was barely any worse with 35 hours in the first 10 days compared to 38 hours this month

Simply the worst summer weather anywhere on earth. It's impossible for anything to be worse than this. Even this would be far superior:

At least it's dry and sunny today.

It has just stopped raining here in Edinburgh, but I'm starting to forget when we actuallly had our last completely dry day and it is really amazing as well, what that really long predominately dry pattern of weather which we had over a good number of months, suddenly flipped into this much wetter pattern that has led us into this horrendously miserable start to the summer which we are continuing to experience just now. What is more concerning as well, as I looked at the BBC's forecast from last night for the week ahead and according to that, it appears though the models have even backed away a bit from that improvement in the weather for next week which has been seen to be on the cards.

In a way, that really doesn't surprise me because time and time again whether it be winter or summer, we always get some promising looking charts for about a week or so ahead which look really good for that particular season, only to find that the models then back away from that the time period in question approaches. In winter, this gives us loads of charts showing easterlies or northerlies with a possible promise of a lot of snow, only for that to never materialise. In summer, this results in loads of charts which show high pressure building nicely from the Azores with the promise of a lot of sunshine and high temperatures, only for everything to end up getting shunted further south as the time in question approaches with that decent summer weather then ending up being confined to the south of England, or not even happening at all.

It wouldn't therefore surprise me if that is what is happening yet again and if it is, that doesn't leave us with much hope for the rest of this summer ahead.

Goes on and on?? The summer is 10 days old, get a grip man!

It's been a very poor start to summer that's for sure but to judge it as being one of the worst of all time after a week and a half is just plain daft.

Took until evening to get any sun yesterday as yet again it cleared to the north and south but a train of vile cloud kept streaming overhead here

After the skies clearing overnight it is just back to square one today with more utterly revolting and depressing grey filth. Just started raining again for the 11th day in a row. It's a situation that is indescribable without resorting to expletives

Which of the following is this cancerous month going to produce first?:

A) A dry day

B) A day with 9hrs sun

C) A day reaching 20C

D) None of the above

I'll go with option D). June is so utterly detestable and unpleasant beyond comprehension these days that every single synoptic set-up produces cloud and rain therefore eliminating the possibilty of anything decent arising.

How there can be so many top 10 wet and dull Junes in such a short space of time when records have existed for well over a century is beyond the bounds of credulity.

Another day of rain today and according to Countryfile weather there will be rain on most days this coming week. So a very wet cool first half of June. Matt Taylor also mentioned Edinburgh's rainfall total at 116mm so far! Over twice the average. Come back warm dry Spring!

It wasn't that long ago, that the models were promising better weather by the end of the week, but it didn't take long for that to fall by the wayside as is all too often the case. Looking back on things, anyone who doesn't have a very short memory will be able to recall those stellar summer-like charts which we saw quite a lot of during last winter which would easily have produced temperatures into the 30s in centigrade in England and possibly even the odd 30+ celsius temperature recording here in Scotland if we were in that same pattern right now.

That was largely responsible for killing off our winter and producing temperatures into the low to mid teens in places, which aren't even all that much lower than what we are getting just now. Those were obviously the kind of synoptics which we could have done with seeing just now but instead of that, we have been left with that sort of mobile and Atlantic-driven pattern of weather which we had become more accustomed to seeing during recent winters, and which has been largely responsible to producing all of that rain which we are getting just now.

What all of this adds up to is the fact that we actually had better weather last winter than what we are getting just now and since this is supposed to be our 'summer', that just tells you the crazy nature of our weather in this country.

Utter garbage yet again. Was meant to be sunny with a westerly but ended up with a rancid north westerly instead. Practically overcast the entire day and needless to say yet more crappy drizzly rain in the morning then stuck under a band of rain and showers in the afternoon while it was fine to the immediate north and south

The rest of this week now looking crap as well. Horrifically cloudy and depressing beyond words. Yet another spell of extreme toxic permacast gloom. Combined with the staggeringly awful rainfall totals that have already accumulated it is clear that this is yet another catastrophic disaster of a summer that can be written off already. The only question is just how bad it will end up. Everything so far points to it ending up at 2007/2012 levels, if not even worse

Ive had a good look at the models and forecasts and basically I see this for the rest of June, the national forecasts only headline great London temperatures as we know, especially the BBC, so this is for all of us other moaners! 😂

London, Norwich, Nottingham, Birmingham & Bristol: Mostly sunny, dry and very warm at times, 20 - 28 C

Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle: Sunshine at times but more breeze and some cloudy days with spits of rain, 18 - 23 C

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness: Windy with large amounts of cloud and rain at times, the odd sunnier day in the east. Cool in the west, 15 - 20 C

I've just had a look at the BBC's latest charts which go out until Saturday and that shows high pressure still sitting to the south of the UK. In that scenario, the south of England would still have better weather than us, whilst we are still under the influence of those Atlantic weather systems coming in around the top of it but even the south of England would still be in an Atlantic air mass with that which means that whilst any cloud would break up towards the SE of England, I imagine that places such as Devon and Cormnwall would still be plagued by low cloud, drizzle and coastal fog under that sort of set up.

However, that area of high pressure which I have just mentioned is still the same area of high pressure which was supposedly going to have built from the south over the entire country by then and I fear that as a result of that, this could end up being a very frustrating summer indeed. where we see a lot of promising looking charts for say, a week or so ahead only for that to never end up coming off as the time in question arrives. This of course, is no different from what we saw quite a lot of last winter when there was countless charts showing northerlies or easterlies about a week or so ahead, only for that to never actually end up happening in the end.

To make matters worse as well, the models are now indicating that any improvement in the weather isn't expected to last with the weather going downhill yet again by the end of the month, and that is not healped by the fact that both the AO and NAO are expected to trend negative yet again which will only increase the risk of northern blocking (something which we always look for in winter, but never get then and something which we certainly don't want to seeing during the summer as that just forces those low pressure systems further south which then brings them right on top of the UK at this time of year).

Furthemore, I have also been looking at a few charts which take us well into July and I'm not even seeing many good signs there either so all in all, it is difficult as I write, to see much hope for this summer ahead.

The worst thing is as well, is that although it is still far too early to write off this summer altogether, we are now just over a week away from the summer solstice after which time, it will then start to get darker at nights once again. Given just how wet and miserable this summer has been so far, that is a very depressing thought indeed as we then once again after that, start to get excited about the prospects for the following winter after that which given the manner in which the last few winters have gone, wouldn't come as any surprise if that never really happened either such as that almost constant nature of our weather in terms of refusing to give us the sort of weather which is anything like what we would expect to see during that particular season in question.

The miserable depressing **** just goes on and on and on. Overcast and raining again with hardly any sun all day. Groundhog day hell every single June. Any other time of year today’s synoptics would have given decent weather

Last June was one of the worst ever yet it had still managed more sun in just the first week than what there has been so far this month – a thoroughly diabolical 50.4hrs. It’s on track to be as dull as 2007 and 2012 but far wetter.

Only one day in the last nine has managed 5 hours sun when over 16 hours are available daily. Beyond desperate. Even the worst winter months aren’t this vile. It’s just revolting crap every single day

It's difficult not to feel smug, sitting here on the South Coast and soaking up the sun. But just to prove that some people are never pleased, where are the thunderstorms? With lots of heat only just across the Channel, augmented by fresher westerlies coming across from time to time, we should be seeing some cracking stuff. East Kent had a lightning show the other week, but nothing to speak of here.

And yet another gloomy day with light rain at times. Thinking back to the warmth and blue skies of April and May. I'm 60 next year as are a few friends and we are thinking of spending June and July working our way down through France, Andorra, Spain and Portugal. I think Autumn Winter and Spring in Scotland would be great and head south for the summer.....would be my ideal!

Whilst the south of England continues to bask in what I would consider to be proper, summer weather with loads of sunshine and temperatures forecast to reach the high 20s in a few places (I have heard that it could even get above 30C down there by the weekend), we (at least here in Edinburgh) continue to be stuck under an almost constant layer of alto-stratus/stratus cloud which has kept it overcast virtually all of the time, and there was even a few spots of rain around when I was out and about this morning (though fortunately for once, that didn't actually come to anything).

When I first looked at the forecast for the week ahead at the beginning of the week, today was supposedly going to be the best day of the entire working week as far as the weather is concerned. That means that if today's weather really is as good just now as it is going to be all week, I can't really hold out much hope for the rest of this week.

Sounds like a good idea. If this is the future of summers then I'll be doing everything I can to spend the majority of it outside this country once I've retired. For now I just have to make do with two weeks. Even the worst of autumns, winters and springs are nowhere near as unremittingly vile as this season now is. Won't have to worry about all the good days falling during the week once retired but in summer it is just crap day in day out weekday or weekend.

Today was yet another awful day. Cloudy, dismal, drizzly hell. This week is even worse than last week. Absolutely disgusting.

Having to endure this overcast day-in-day out every single year for the duration of this cancerous month is nothing short of a punishing ordeal. Spending the month of June here really should be offered as an alternative to a short term custodial sentence for minor offenders
