I've just had a look at the BBC's latest charts which go out until Saturday and that shows high pressure still sitting to the south of the UK. In that scenario, the south of England would still have better weather than us, whilst we are still under the influence of those Atlantic weather systems coming in around the top of it but even the south of England would still be in an Atlantic air mass with that which means that whilst any cloud would break up towards the SE of England, I imagine that places such as Devon and Cormnwall would still be plagued by low cloud, drizzle and coastal fog under that sort of set up.
However, that area of high pressure which I have just mentioned is still the same area of high pressure which was supposedly going to have built from the south over the entire country by then and I fear that as a result of that, this could end up being a very frustrating summer indeed. where we see a lot of promising looking charts for say, a week or so ahead only for that to never end up coming off as the time in question arrives. This of course, is no different from what we saw quite a lot of last winter when there was countless charts showing northerlies or easterlies about a week or so ahead, only for that to never actually end up happening in the end.
To make matters worse as well, the models are now indicating that any improvement in the weather isn't expected to last with the weather going downhill yet again by the end of the month, and that is not healped by the fact that both the AO and NAO are expected to trend negative yet again which will only increase the risk of northern blocking (something which we always look for in winter, but never get then and something which we certainly don't want to seeing during the summer as that just forces those low pressure systems further south which then brings them right on top of the UK at this time of year).
Furthemore, I have also been looking at a few charts which take us well into July and I'm not even seeing many good signs there either so all in all, it is difficult as I write, to see much hope for this summer ahead.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
