I am surprised it hasn't drawn more comments. It was a notable gale and made an impact. The evening rush hour was chaos. They had to close the M60 Barton Viaduct and the M6 Thelwall viaducts, so you can imagine the chaos!

A colleague of mine, who lived in Bolton & was coming up to retirement, had gone to visit a client on the Wirral. The Runcorn Bridge was closed in addition to the Barton & Thelwall crossings, so the only places to cross the Mersey/Ship Canal between Liverpool and Manchester were central Warrington and the narrow toll bridge at Warburton. He was stuck on the M56, then through Warrington, for about 4 hours.
My own commute home was a b*tch, too, especially trying to come off the M62 at j8.
I also think this may have been the first time I heard the Beetham Tower howling! They changed the design of the 'fin' thing afterwards, but that howl was fantastic! Could hear it right across Manchester.
