Had to go to Glasgow for work today. My god, the intolerable heat and sun 😑 as I ate my lunch on a rooftop terrace

Once again, today got off to a chilly start here in Edinburgh but once again, it wasn't quite as cold as it was on the preceding night. Just like other recent days, it warmed up quite a lot during today, but today wasn't quite as warm as yesterday in the end, although the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank still managed to reach 20.96°C.

Neither of my two other locations were even as warm as that though, with today's maximum temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh only reaching 18.9°C whereas today's highest recorded temperature at Edinburgh Airport was just 18°C.

Just like yesterday though, today was once again, our sunniest day of this year so far with a total of 15.28 hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening. We've actually had quite a lot of sunshine over the last few days and it's just a pity that this is happening too late to be able to prevent this month from still being duller than average overall (tomorrow is the last day of this month and there aren't even enough hours in that period to be able to bring this month's total up to the 1991-2020 May average, although the last few days will at least make this month's total a lot more respectable than what it looked as though it was going to be).

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening had dropped back to around 14°C here in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, normal service for this month has been resumed once again and in complete contrast to other recent days, today has started off on a dull and rather misty note.😡

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that the Sun won't break through later on (in fact, I'm sure that it probably will at some point in time) but even if it does, there is no chance as a result, of today being our sunniest day of this year.

Since today is the last day of this month and the last day of the meteorological spring, this means that yesterday will go down as being our sunniest day of this month and the sunniest day of this spring in the final statistics for that, regardless of what happens during the rest of today.

However, today is also starting off on a milder note than of late and so, the temperature at 5am BST (04:00 UTC) this morning was around 10°C here in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, there's still not much sign of the Sun making any sort of appearance as I write.

In response to that, the temperatures are also refusing to rise and so, the temperature at 12 noon BST (11:00 UTC) was just a measly 13°C here in Edinburgh which is quite a lot cooler than of late, and not even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.😡

The Sun is now very slowly, trying hard to break through all of that cloud which is still around but the temperature at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon was still only around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

Looking around and according top weatherobs.com, Tyndrum in central Scotland appears to be the warmest place in the UK and the republic of Ireland put together just now, with a temperature of around 24°C as at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon.

Sunny  here now, but only up to 15.6c as the sunshine has appeared too late.
See many Eastern Parts and the Midlands are still under thick cloud.

No sunshine here today - started with drizzle. Cloud cover all day, quite windy and temps around 11C. Felt quite cool - light sweater weather.

Sunny and breezy from the NE. If only it were... etc!

14.2C after a high of 14.9C earlier.

That said, aside from the lack of rain I can't complain. A wind and temperatures in the mid teens is ideal summer weather and long may it continue. It saves a fortune on running the portable a/c.

(It's also rather novel to experience a UV index of 7 when it feels a bit nippy in the shade! It reminds me very much of being in Yellowstone back in April some years ago, which is a mountainous region of course; it's the same combination of coolish air and strong, very strong sunshine.)

Today at least had a sunny end to it here in Edinburgh but a total of just 6.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank to round off what will go down as a slightly duller than average month within a spring which was also duller than average overall.

Today was also much cooler than of late with a maximum temperature of just 15.80°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm BST (21:00 UTC) this evening had dropped back to around 12°C here in Edinburgh.

White Rabbits!! White Rabbits!!

We are of course into a brand new month and a brand new season which in this instance, is that three month stretch which is known as the summer of 2023.

As I write though, this summer isn't exactly starting off on a very inspiring note here in Edinburgh as this morning has once again, got off to a dull and overcast start.

In addition to that, today (and indeed, this summer) has also got off to a rather chilly start for this time of the year with an overnight minimum temperature of just 5.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, so we have already had to endure that nightmare scenario of single figures summer temperatures during the early part of this morning.

In fact, there has only actually been three nights during this year so far when the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has actually been in double figures which is very poor indeed, even by our own usual Scottish standards.😡

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning was around 10°C here in Edinburgh.

However, this latest area of high pressure isn't delivering that really decent weather as it is in the wrong position for actually doing that (in order for that high pressure to deliver some decent summer weather, we need it to be sitting either right on top of the UK or just to our east and thus bringing up some hot air from the south). Therefore, it would be as well not being there at all in my opinion, especially since a lot of farmers and growers (but obviously not those holiday makers who are looking for decent weather) could really do with seeing a bit of rain just now.

Who would have believed as well, that central heating would be needed in what is supposed to be our so-called  "summer" but then, that just shows you the crazy nature of our weather at times.

Good laundry drying weather but...
13C. Still the nagging chilly NE fresh breeze on the Glorious 1st of June.
But it has been a great run of blue skies and warm afternoons recently, though not so good for farmers and gardeners.

18c downstairs here now , coolest in the house for a while.

Outside it is 10.7c and cloudy.   Forecast to be cloudy all day today, looks like worse day of the week.  Having said that breaks in the cloud opening up across Greater Manchester so it wouldn't take too much for the gap to expand NE across the Pennines.

Earlier it said 11.00. I don't believe either!

It's getting well into the afternoon now, but there are still no signs of the Sun making making any sort of appearance here in Edinburgh.

As a result, the temperatures are once again refusing to rise here and remain stuck at around 13°C which is almost ridiculously cool for what is supposed to be the start of our so-called "summer", especially when you consider that I have seen many days even in the middle of winter which have been warmer than that.😡

Our beautiful sunny spell has ended! Today it feels cold with cloud and a fresh east wind, only 14 C max!
I see Nottingham's max was only 12 C yesterday and the Yorkshire coast only 10 C! Miserable for late Spring/Early Summer.
Meanwhile the Lakes and Western Scotland are well into their second week of glorious warm sunshine ☀️

For that reason, I just wish that those easterlies would sod off and then don't come back until next winter when we could then, get some decent amounts of snow out of them.😡
