A bright and sunny start to this morning here in Edinburgh (something which we have seen very little of so far during this summer and during this month in particular, which is actually quite remarkable for a weekend in summer in this part of the world, especially as we are about to move into the second week of the Edinburgh Trades Fortnight) with only a few bits and pieces of cloud around.

Last night's minimum temperature was 13.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, so last night was warmer then of late.

The MSL air pressure at Edinburgh Gogarbank had dropped slightly to around 1,027.5 mb as at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning.

However, there has been an increase in the relative humidity and dew point, so this morning has more of a humid feel to it as a result.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning was around 16°C here in Edinburgh.

The temperature here in Edinburgh was already at around 20°C as at 10am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning with the Sun still shining, so today could well end up being quite a hot one here.

Fine with unbroken sunshine, but a surprisingly sensible 20.4 C (77% H) even though winds are negligible. UV rays are packing a punch as I prepare to sit on garden chair and watch the poor unfortunate souls in oven hot cars stuck in traffic while trying to get to the harbour and beach.

Spared today again thanks to the light onshore SSW'ly breeze.

21.7c with 60% RH and a dewpoint of 13.3c.

All very reasonable...for now.

A virtually completely sunny day here in Edinburgh up until now means that a total of 6.7 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon.

As at that same time, the temperature was 23.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 25.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so regardless of what happens during the rest of today, today will now go down as our hottest day of this year so far at both of those stations.

24.8C with a few illegal clouds pegging the temperature back after a cloudless start. Feels a bit less hot than yesterday in fact, which is the opposite of the forecast.

At long last the first really good day of July. Brilliant sunshine and a high of 23.1C

I was inland at Crathes where it was around 24C

Sadly it only looks like a temporary respite from the dross which is now attacking from the other direction as North Sea muck has infiltrated within the past half hour. Cooled the temperature right down to 15.8C, which is barely any warmer than during the night, despite sun still coming through at times as it's not a full layer of muck.

Have my bedroom windows open to let the cool air in as temperature is 26.7C inside just now

Here in Edinburgh, a completely sunny afternoon and evening up until now means that a total of 12.7 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening.

There is still more than two hours to go until sunset as I write and we only need at least another 1.5 hours of sunshine between now and then in order for today to go down as our sunniest day of this year so far.

Unlike on other recent nights, there isn't any cloud around which could potentially scupper those chances and so, it is probably almost certain that we will end up getting over that finishing line this time.

The only caveat here is that the days are now shortening which means that as a result of the continuous sunshine from sunrise and (and is looking increasingly likely) to sunset, today's total also looks certain to be this year's highest total in the overall final statistics for this year.

Today was also our hottest day of this year so far by quite a considerable amount as today's maximum temperature was 26.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and at least 27.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That also makes today the first time this year that a temperature of 80°F or above has been recorded here in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening was still up at around 24°C here in Edinburgh.

I can confirm that today will now go down as our sunniest day of this year so far as a total of 14.7 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As I write, there appears to be a little bit of cloud to my west and NW which is now obscuring those last rays of sunshine before sunset but even with that and for the reasons which I described in my last post on this thread, today's final figure (whatever that ends up as) is probably now unlikely to be beaten at any time during the rest of this year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening has dropped quite a lot during the last hour, but is still up at around 21°C here in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

In the end, a total of 15.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
