Yes, it certainly feels as though winter is well and truly over in this part of the world. Today, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank reached the dizzy heights of 12.2°C which makes today, our warmest day of this year so far
This is showing us that everything is now just going from bad to worse on that front, which makes it hard to believe that we are technically, still in the meteorological winter. What is happening just now makes it hard to believe that it was only around a week ago since the temperature at that same station got all the way down to -12.6°C but now, all of that cold weather and snow which we had recently has already become a very distant memory as a result of what is happening now.
This has been a winter which has delivered more cold weather and snow to here than what we have seen for a long but at the same time, this has been yet another winter which has failed to deliver even a single ice day to this part of the the world, even though Gandalf the White managed to register a few ice days in his own neck of the woods down in Cambridgeshire, which is a lot further south than where I am up here in Scotland.
Furthermore, it doesn't even look now as though the cold weather during this month will be enough to make this a colder than average month in the CET region. For here in Scotland, we might well have had just enough cold weather during that period to be able to cling onto a colder than average month by the skin of our teeth even if the rest of this month is really mild, but this is still a very disappointing note to end this winter on.
We have to remember as well that December was also a milder than average month which means that although a lot of people will talk about this being a cold winter, the reality is that two of the three winter months are going to end up with a milder than average CET and from that, we can then see that overall, it's not actually been such a cold winter after all across the UK in general.
You may well have read on another thread (and possibly on this one as well) a week or so ago, that I was prepared to give this winter 7/10 overall but with the way that all of this is ending up, I'm probably not going to give this winter any more than 6/10 now and as long as this all keeps going from bad to worse from a cold perspective, this winter could even be lucky in the end to escape with a rating of more than 5/10 from me in the end.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
