LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.
Yesterday was the wettest day of this autumn so far at both of those stations, and will go down in the final statistics as the wettest day of last month at both of those stations.
Indeed, last month got off to a wet start and for a while, it had looked almost certain to go down as our fourth wetter than average month in a row.
However, it then became exceptionally dry with a run of 18 days in a row without a single official rain day at either of those stations. That finally came to an end during the early hours of this morning, but the wet day which followed on the last day of last month wasn't enough to prevent last month from being drier than average in the end, both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts and in terms of the number of official rain days.
This therefore brings to a end, the run of wetter than average months which we had during the summer, although last month was only our first drier than average month since May.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
