Great storm - big thunder - just to our NE. Sky there looks apocalyptic.
Yet to our west, it's blue sky and the sun is blaring down. Huge rainbow to our east and barely a breath of wind.
It's a weird combination.
You beat me to it Tim. Staying at pals at the top of Yeadon so birds eye view of that storm
Yes looks like you were better positioned, on the Sferics maps it showed a number of strikes over the Airport and Yeadon area which were a decent watch here but must have given you a spectacular show.
Seems the storms are following you at the moment!
I saw that storm pass by but we were too far east. Didn’t hear any thunder or see any lightning. Story of the summer unfortunately.
Some quite vicious storms just off the coast of Lowestoft.
Yes, fantastic lightning show seen from Lowestoft in the night of 20/21 August. 1st lot were over NW Netherlands (Wadden Sea area), later, just off the coast here (to the E & NE).
Lightning and thunder here now. The thunder is not that loud at the moment but the lightning seems fairly close. Temperature only 14.7C at the moment so quite chilly for a thunderstorm.
EDIT: Thunder has stopped for the moment but looks like more on the way. Major power outage reported in the Newbury area within the past 20 minutes which is probably weather related.
The radar returns over west Hampshire and Dorset have been unbelievable. Looks like they are fading as they approach here but that could be an artifact of the dodgy triangle of weaker radar which always seems to be present over north Hampshire. In fact as I type I can hear the downpour building.
Yes, thats always like that down that way. Wnder what causes it and whether it can be fixed?
I watched it form and it was a major deluge in this part of Dorset with severe flooding.
But as you say they seems to be fading for whatever reason.
Nick
Heavy thundery rain in stevenage
And in St Albans. Some rumbles of thunder for 30 minutes or so now.
And here in Watford with thunder and lightning, 13.2mm fallen in the last half hour.
Some good rotation going on - the heaviest burst has just passed to the south of here and the low level cloud is going almost due west while the upper clouds with patches of blue sky are tracking eastwards!
