I hadn't been following the weather today really, until I saw this from Swaledale: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0jTrTEnTiH/?igshid=1xthsfj4kurh3&fbclid=IwAR362HWkuSFM7WA9c7SrCTdSIYvSzbooEjYgAUxOLilMgnOD-sFWj_352zI That's where I was meant to be going this weekend for a mountain-bike event. Unsurprisingly it has been cancelled. As well as the damage to property there will be big financial losses with a three-day event, with thousands of people meant to be attending, being cancelled just a few days out.

The Met Office said Malham Tarn had 82.2mm of rain in 24 hours, the majority in the space of four hours. (just quoting, I do know Malham isn't in Swaledale, just nearby). The article suggests ca 50mm in Swaledale itself in about an hour
It doesn't look over for Swaledale yet. Met Office rain radar shows rainfall there over the past few hours and another intensifying band about to reach the area. Elsewhere, there are some some large areas of slow moving moderate rainfall around Pickering.
We're going to be in Wensleydale (neighbouring 'dale') in a few weeks. Hope they get the place cleaned up in time!
Got to say this wouldn't look out of place in the TX panhandle. Apparently from N. Yorks storm yesterday:

Yes looks like there has been more heavy rain over the Leyburn area this morning. Not what they need at all.
Finding some sun is key today for any storms kicking off in N. Mids/N. England. Some stronger showers Manchester/Sheff/Leeds/N. Lincs showing signs they could develop further.
And it's sunny here right now...
Some of the pictures coming in are awful. I again wonder why there were no orange warnings. Appreciate the localised nature, but some of the damage to property looks severe
Sunny here now too.
Not sunny here any more
Torrential shower came through just recently, and thought I heard a rumble of thunder with that. It was - confirmed by the lightning radar.
Another downpour coming through now.
Atrocious conditions at the moment here with almost continuous torrential rain, and quite a few rumbles of thunder heard just recently.
Thunder becoming more frequent now.
Well that was rather unexpected - a very lengthy thundery downpour with many individual rumbles of thunder, some significant lightning strikes seen, and spells of heavy to torrential rain. 17mm of rain found in the gauge, most of this fell from 1.15pm to 2pm, with some brief showers from earlier in the day.
Nothing down our way, Andy. Did look a bit grey NW - towards Lincoln.
I'm a bit disappointed.
Roger

Looks like the next batch of thundery downpours may be heading further southwards towards you Roger. We're currently getting some more heavy rain, although not as bad as earlier this afternoon. Some strikes showing up again around Doncaster and Rotherham.
Looks like the Doncaster area has been particularly badly hit this afternoon. Wouldn't be surprised to hear of flooding around there.
