A dull, overcast, damp, dreary, depressing and soul destroying start not just to today, but also to this weekend as well.

There was some rain in the very hours of this morning and although it's not raining here just now, there are still a few showers dotted around this area.

The result of this is that a total of 3.6 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am this morning along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that for the fifth day in a row now, today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations as a result.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 14.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so it was yet another rather warm and fairly humid night.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am this morning was around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

Another poor weekend forecast  - 'cloud soon clearing to give a sunny day' -   it looks cloudy virtually everywhere in Britain and Ireland right now.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

Rather cloudy with a "mild" 20.4 c & 74% h under a light N breeze. But continued bone dry.

Not one of the most Summer-like days it has to be said but at least I won't feel guilty for stopping around indoors.

Since my post in yesterday's CC thread I've checked my water meter, and in the three months since my last bill (April) I have used 10 cubic metres.  As I normally use 4 cubic metres in 6 months for domestic purposes that means 8 cubic metres has been used in watering the garden since April. At slightly over £4 per cubic metre that makes £32.  With very little rain in the foreseeable future, it looks as though that rate of expenditure will continue or increase.  That's why I really would like some rain down here.

Here in Edinburgh, it's dry just now but according to the latest rain radar maps, there is still some heavy rain not all that far away from here along the northern shoreline of the Firth of Forth as I write.

Although it is still mostly overcast, a few breaks have started to appear in that cloud with even an odd fleeting glimpse of the Sun. Indeed, this has even resulted in a total of 6 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

It is a little bit cooler just now than what it was yesterday at this time but if it does brighten up later on as I still think it will, today could still end up being just as warm as other recent days.

Therefore, I don't think that the picture for here is actually quite as bad as the one which Jerry was painting earlier on (for a while, I was starting to think that he had suddenly morphed into our own version of Richard from Aberdeen ).

A total of 4.6 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon along with 4.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 18.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In the end, today has gone exactly as I had expected it to. This afternoon has become much brighter with more in the way of sunshine at times. As it has got brighter, it has also warmed up a bit and for a change, there has been no further additions to today's rainfall totals in this part of the world to report as it has been completely dry here.

The only surprise here is that even though this afternoon has been a lot brighter, today's sunshine totals have still been very disappointing for the time of year and so a total of just 1.8 hours of sunshine has recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

However, the temperatures have responded nicely to that sunshine which we have had. They have ended up being roughly on a par with what we saw during yesterday and have not yet even peaked at any of my three local stations with the exception of the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Furthermore, today is now the fourth day in a row where the temperature has gone above 70°F at all three at all three of my local stations, although it only did so briefly at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh before dropping back slightly.

With that in mind, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 21.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22°C at Edinburgh Airport and 20.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which actually makes it slightly warmer than what it was at this time yesterday.

At 1pm today it was struggling under stubborn cloud at 19c but by 2pm some sunny spells developed raising the temperature at 3pm to 22.2c meaning that 20c has now been exceeded for 18 consecutive days. The rains failed again today meaning that we have recorded just 0.4mm of drizzle in the last 3 and a half weeks.

This is turning into a decent summer.
