Cold and much clearer now with an official air frost at all three of my local stations at long, long last (it's not very often that I've been able to say that during this so-called "winter").

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was -1.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Looks like Exeter will not see a frost tomorrow morning as rain is heading our way! - Nice to have a cold and crisp night for once and I feel this is a sign of things to come as well.

BTW -1.3c at midnight is hardly cold and nothing unusual for any city in the UK let alone Edinburgh, but it's a start and will be a sign of things to come!

Calm and clear. -3.3c. That’s the lowest temp I’ve recorded this winter and we’ve only managed to get just below zero a couple of times. It’s 2c lower than my weather apps are suggesting.

My weather station got to -10.7, same as the Met Office Aboyne weather station which is 2 miles away. There is still 6-8cm of snow and everything is sparkling. A proper winter morning!

 Rather cloudy but dry. 1.4 c & 86% h with light winds.

It got down to -4 c in inland western parts of Kent last night, I've managed 0.3 c at 6.45 am here at the Folkestone harbour end but strangely hardly any frost despite the 80% humidity easily bringing the dewpoint to below freezing and calm winds.

However, there was a lot more frosts around up until this point during last winter, than what there has been this time.

Having said that though, I don't actually see any frost around this morning, but today has started off on a cold note with an official air frost at all three of my local stations. The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh just now, although there is also a lot of thin high cloud around.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -3.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -5°C at Edinburgh Airport and -2.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was -1.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -5°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Clouded over during the night so couldn't even achieve the low bar of getting the coldest night of winter. Min of -3.9C so fell short of the -4.3C recorded two weeks ago with no snow.

The cloud also means I woke up to yet another dark dull overcast morning. Absolutely horrible winter.

-4.1 was the minimum here, and it's still struggling below -1 but should get above for a while surely.
Watery sun qwith little wind, decent snow cover of a couple of inches remains.

Failing that, I would even be happy under the circumstances if we went into a mild and zonal pattern with a lot of rain because the fact that we were getting that rain (which we could really do with getting as it has been so dry here for so long now) would at least, have meant that something was actually happening to break the monotony which this so-called "winter" has produced (it is that lack of anything actually happening which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather, which I have had the biggest problem with throughout this winter).

Nevertheless, I can confirm that I'm back to being not very happy for now. The Sun is shining and a completely sunny morning means that a total of 2.5 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, the temperature has shot up by quite a lot to the point where it's not even all that cold here now. In addition to that, it remains bone dry here as usual, with very little hope of there being much in the way of precipitation in the very near future in this part of the world (so despite the last couple of days being sunnier, the borefest goes on).

Meanwhile the temperature at 12 noon was 4.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I dunno why these automated IMBY weather forecasts don't seem to handle lack of cloud cover on temperatures, even when they predict clear skies. Last night it went down to -3.6C here in edinburgh as it was clear, even though the metoffice reckoned it wouldn't get below freezing on it's hourly forecast. Now it's at 4.8C when they reckoned it would be a max of 2C. XCWeather is even worse, it reckons for the next 72 hours the temperatures won't go above 3C or below -1C... I've got a pound that says differently
